Back to civilization

Sure enough, we spent most of yesterday shrouded in fog. It made for an interesting walk in the morning though, and some different photo opportunities.

Even though it warmed up to about 12C (54F), the fog remained. We kind of thought we would have more people driving out here because it was Sunday, but only two cars drove down the road the whole time, and they soon turned around.

Most of the trails on Brier Island are used by ATV’s more than hikers. We kind of have mixed feelings about this because much of it is owned by the Nature Conservancy of Canada, and the ATV's are kind of noisy and they make the trails rutted and muddy in spots. But then they’re just having their own kind of fun, and who are we to say they can’t. Plus, if you put limits on them, you open the door to putting limits on RV’ing and camping. There’s also a fair bit of garbage lying around in places, a lot of it washed up from the ocean, but some of it is obviously not. Apparently they do trash clean up days, so maybe we’ll find out how to participate one day. Because we really do like the island, and want to come back.

We left our foggy spot at around 2:45pm and headed for the 3:25pm ferry on the other side of the island. As we got close to that shore, the fog disappeared and it was a beautiful sunny day! It’s very possible that it had been that way all day, and only our side of the island was foggy!

A bright sunny day just a couple of miles away!

Made it back to Digby last night and parked up at a church parking lot. (GPS 44.61717 -65.76506). Normally, we like to ask if we can park up at a church, but there are times when there is nobody around to ask. Having said that, as we wandered around Digby for Whiskey’s evening walk, we spotted quite a few other decent overnight spots.

We’ll head back to Kentville this morning and get caught up on some chores. Justin’s cousin has volunteered a parking spot for Sherman for a couple of nights, plus we’re going to meet up with a couchsurfer who has said they have a spot for Sherman as well. Nice to have a few choices so that we don’t overstay our welcome in any one place!

Today's drive 72 kms (45 miles)
