And our water supply is running low too. Usually, we would go to a campground or RV Park for a night or two and refill the water and be plugged into electric, but none of them are open until the beginning of May at the earliest. And we want to go exploring, but we can't leave the area until we fill the propane tank, and the propane place isn't open on Sunday. And I'll check at the propane place tomorrow and see if they have a water outlet we can take advantage of.
Anyway, we'll go out today in the car for a drive and maybe a short hike. Whiskey looks like she's got some ambition, even wanting to play with her ball!
C'mon spring...!
What a cute picture of Whiskey! I'm glad to see she's feeling better.
ReplyDeleteYou probably already know this but we found a good solution to the propane problem. We bought an "Extend a Stay" kit for the propane.
You hook the propane hose from the rv tank to a portable tank. You turn off the valve on the motorhome and the portable tank on. We run off the portable tank 99% of the time. If the portable tank should run out in the middle of the night (or on a Sunday) you just turn the valve on for the motorhome and refill the portable when you can.
That way you always have a backup and don't have to drive the motorhome to find it. It worked great for us this winter when we had to run the furnace a lot.
We started off doing it the other way..running on the MH propane and using the tank as a back-up. Someone suggested we use the motorhome as a back up and it worked much better. DUH!
Stay warm!
Karen & Al, how big is your portable tank?
ReplyDeleteYes Whiskey it is cold, even here in Kelowna. You might not want to read my blog post today, depressing!!!
Kevin, May 1 is rather late to open the parks, si?
Sucks about the cold. Whiskey looks great!
ReplyDeleteCheers!!!
We have the "extend a stay" kit as well works great, we have been able to borrow 20 lb bbq tanks when we need to. Also have a Mr. Heater (1 brick) potable propane heater works great uses less propane and no electricity, great for dry camping, we tapped into our main tank on the extend a stay fitting, so do not need to use the expensive throw away bottles.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good picture of Whiskey.Hope it warms up soon for you guys.
ReplyDeleteSo glad Whiskey is doing better. She even looks perky in that picture. Love the header.
ReplyDeleteKaren and Al...Thanks Karen, we are happy she is doing better too.
ReplyDeleteWe don't want the extend-a-stay kit for two reasons. Frist, normally we don't stay anywhere long enough to have a need for it. Only twice in the 3 1/2 years fulltiming would we have ever needed it, so the cost alone wouldn't have made it worth our while, even when Kevin was working at the RV store. Last year while we were parked up at the campground was one time, and the second time was 2 weeks ago. This time we were planning to leave anyhow. We do a lot of boondocking so it wouldn't really work for us. Like being parked up at the church parking lot we don't want to pull out a propane tank and have it look like we are camping out. We try to look like we are just parked. Our second reason is that we don't have space to carry an extra propane tank.
Contessa...I think it is cold everywhere at the moment. What happened to global warming? Yes, that is the earliest that any campgrounds around here open. Most of them don't open to the middle of May and some provincal campgrounds don't open until as late as the middle of June.
WBY...You're right it sucks being cold!
George and Suzie...Thanks for the tip on the Mr. Heater. Kevin will look into that.
Kenny and Angela...Thanks Kenny. We hope it warms up soon too!
pidge...She's starting to be a pain in the butt again, so we know she is doing much better.
