Home from the hospital

Lindsey, Justin, and baby Cameron came home from the hospital yesterday afternoon, and they’re all doing fine. Whiskey, on the other hand, didn’t have such a good day.

She’s thirsty all the time, because she’s been taking a diuretic pill that is supposed to relieve the fluid build up in her lungs. So she drinks, but something is causing her to spit it all up minutes after she drinks. So she wants to drink again, and the process repeats itself. And of course it means that feeding her the other pills that help with her heart contractions is pointless because they come up as well. We’re thinking it’s possible that taking these three pills together is not doing her any good, so perhaps not taking ANY drugs could be better. So far this evening, she’s not having any problems, although we keep the doggy diaper on her. We believe this was all started because of the incontinence pill she was on since her bladder stones operation last fall, so she’s been off that since Wednesday. We’ll put up with her in diapers, if it means she will be fine otherwise. We have another vet appointment Monday afternoon.

We’re going to take Sherman for a drive tomorrow. He needs propane because it’s been so unseasonably cold here! Supposed to be a relatively nice day tomorrow though with sunshine and a high near 8C (46F). And, we found a dump station at the Greenwood Shopping Mall about 50 kms (30 miles) from here, so we’ll go do some exploring tomorrow. I called them, and the dump station is open and usable at this time of year…and it’s free.

Getting all this done means that Ruth, Whiskey and Sherman will be all set for a week on their own when I fly to Ottawa early Wednesday morning.

(As I post this on Monday morning, Whiskey is again doing much better. She slept well last night, and hasn't had any other problems yet this morning. Perhaps removing ALL the drugs from her system is a good thing. Consultation with the vet this afternoon.)

  1. Little Cameron is such a cute baby. What a nice header picture of the three of them!

I'm sorry Whiskey is having problems. We're having the same type of issues with Squeaky. I think the antibiotics are making her feel bad. Hopefully the vet will come up with a solution for both of us. Hang in there Whiskey!

  2. You are so lucky to have Cameron home and now you can dote.I am sure Lindsey will appreciate the help. Kevin it won't be long and you'll have a companion, I used to call our Grandson Ada my shadow because everywhere I went he was right there at my side. That only last until about third grade and they start expanding their friend network, but it was great while it lasted, and he still spends his weekends here. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna...

  6. Happy to read everyone is doing well again. Been offline a bit lately so catching up can be a bit worrisome, so am glad for a good outcome.

  7. There's a dump station at the Greenwood shopping mall?? Man! All the trips we made to N.S. to hang out in Wilmot, and I never knew that. Of course, who knows if we'll ever get back there...with an RV, but good to know. Maybe you can post a couple details? And how the heck did you know? Is it listed on one of the RV dump station lists? Thanks in advance for any info.
Hope doggie is gonna be OK.
It's never an easy thing with ageing pets, and can be heart breaking.
    Best of luck.

  8. The baby looks much older than 3 days. Adorable!! Hope Whiskey keep improving. Sometimes the cure is worse than the illness.

  9. Karen and Al...Thanks Karen. He is a cutie isn't he!

Hope Squeaky is improving. We have taken Whiskey off the antibiotics I think they were upsetting her stomach. She had a much better day yesterday. It is so hard when our pets get old, you know their time is coming but as long as they aren't suffering we want to try to keep them around.

Sam and Donna...We are going to enjoy him as much as we can over the summer because we won't see him over the winter. It will be harder for us as we don't live close by. But while we are around he will be spoiled with love.

Kenny and Angela...They do grow up fast. I still remember giving birth to both Lindsey and Alex and it seems like it was only yesterday.

Margie and Roger...Lindsey is going to make a great Mom she seems pretty relaxed in her new role. Whiskey had a much better day yesterday and the vet has reduced the medication on two of the pills and removed the antibiotic. All we can do is keep our fingers crossed.

heyduke50...Thanks! We think Cameron is a great name too.

Malone...I know what it is like trying to catch up on blogs. I had that problem over the winter while we were travelling.

Bob...Yep, there is a dump station there. No water, just a dump. We originally went to the Irving Gas Station just off the 101 at the Kentville/New Minas exit because 3 years ago they had one. They told us they closed theirs and we could find one at the Greenwood Mall. It is also listed on www.sanidumps.com It is at the back of the mall. Greenwood is very near Kingston, NS
