Blomidon Provincial Park

Most of our Canadian readers will know that today is election day in Canada. Will anything change? Well all we can do is hope, I suppose.

But this blog is not about politics so we’re not going to discuss it or force our opinion on anybody. And the closest we’ll ever get to discussing religion is by showing you pictures of churches!

Saturday was a decent day and Sherman’s interior needed a major cleanup. So we got it about half done. Nice to have the windows open while doing so. In the evening, our couchsurfing host Tracey and her boyfriend Gary invited us in for a glass of wine and we spent the evening solving the worlds problems.

Yesterday, Lindsey and Cameron came over while Justin was working. He’s a carpenter, and these guys tend to get a lot of jobs on the side so he was out making some spare cash this weekend. So we had pancakes and maple syrup for lunch, and then we drove the 16 kms (10 miles) or so over to Blomidon Provincial Park to go for a walk.

The entrance road to the park is quite steep, and pushing Cameron’s stroller was hard work, but good exercise. It was also hard work on the way back down trying to hold the stroller back from taking off on it’s own!

A lot of of nice views from Blomidon Provincial Park

The provincial parks are all closed right now, the first ones don’t open until May 20th, and a the rest don’t open until June 17th, which is totally ridiculous. But there’s nothing stopping you from parking at the entrance and going for a walk or using the trails.

Quite a few trees in the campground were blown down over the winter.

Blomidon Provincial Park has 70 campsites, at $24.48 per night. There are no hookups, so all your getting for your money is a parking spot and use of a washroom and shower building. Considering there are so many boondocking opportunities, we obviously won’t be staying in any of the parks this year. But we will be using the day use areas and not paying any fees.

Another indication of the worlds highest tides at the Bay of Fundy

Sunday was cooler than forecast with a high of around 10C (50F). Today was supposed to be a ZERO percent chance of rain, however it's been drizzling for the last two hours already!

  4. Nice to able to access the parks free off season, even if to just enjoy the beautiful scenery. For years we went to Algonquin Park Rock Lake, beautiful site on the water, no hookups $40.50 a night! But is now restricted to trailers under 18 feet. Now we are banned, too long, even thou we have put our coach on these sites many times in the past.

  7. What a beautiful place! I'm glad you get to visit for free. I bet Whiskey wishes she could have hitched a ride in that stroller!

  8. Randy and Pam...I am sure we will be there a number of times over the summer. They have quite a few hiking trails and it has free day use. It really is a beautiful spot.

Karen and Al...We want to get a couple of pictures with the difference between high tide and low tide, it really is unbelievable.

Contessa...Thanks. We like the Nova Scotia Provincial Parks for that. Not too many provinces and states have free day use any more.

George and Suzie...That must be frustrating, knowing that you can get in there, but they wouldn't let you. I wonder what their reasoning was for the change? Algonquin Park is such a beautiful park.

Evielynne...We can't wait to put shorts on again. Forecast still isn't looking good for the next 5 days.

Les...Just wait for it. There are many of them here. Haven't had wifi for a while so I am way behind on reading everyone's blogs, so I hope you are having a good trip back so far.

Grace...We are looking forward to exploring it more through the summer. I don't think Whiskey would have liked the stroller, she would have missed all the sniffs along the way.

  9. Your picture that says a lot of nice views from Blomidon looks down on my house in Kingsport. I moved here 9 years ago and absolutely love this area. The changing of the tides changes the moods of the area.
