Kejimkujik National Park

We took a day off from blogging yesterday. Not sure why, just never got to it! Spent the morning getting ready to leave our house sitting at Paula and Jerry's and headed out around noon.

Only had 105 kms (65 miles) to do today so no rush. We stopped and picked up some more groceries before leaving town and then took the main highway. We've used enough gas this month, so figure we're better off maximizing our fuel mileage by taking the main roads.

Yesterday's drive

Along the way, we stopped for a walk at a day use picnic area, and so we didn't make it to the park until just after 4:00pm. We visited at the visitor centre and talked to them about the hiking trails and which areas were best for parking. Because we're not using the campground here ($25.50 per night for a parking spot) we have to be out of the park by 11:00pm, and can return after 7:00am.

Went for a 2km (1.3 mile) hike on an easy trail to some waterfalls.

After our hike, we left the park and continued on towards a little town about 18 kms (11 miles) away where we needed gas anyhow and could likely find somewhere to park overnight. Along the way was a sign for a fish hatchery that was open to the public so we took a short dirt road to a nice level parking area. The hatchery was closed for the day and all the employees had gone home so we were pretty sure we would be fine there for the night, and we were.

Woke up this morning to a bald eagle sitting on the roof of the main building, watching the little fishes in the tanks that he can't get at! Yesterday, there were seagulls there, and when I saw this guy this morning, I thought "that's a funny looking seagull...".

Having a quick breakfast, then back to the park for some more hiking and biking. Oh, we actually had a summer day yesterday! Temperature got up to 28C (82F) and the sun was shining! A little cooler today, and calling for some showers this afternoon.

  1. Glad to hear you're getting some warmer weather. I know you want to get the heck out of Nova Scotia due to the lack of sun, but I'm enjoying the ride.

  5. That picture of the eagle is incredible. In almost three years out here on the road I have yet to get a picture of one. And I love the places you find to park.

  7. Might have to borrow this boondocking spot if we make it as far as Keji while in NS. We skipped the cities on the Eastern US coast (got tired of lugging 56' around the cities and trying to park..plus the kids hate the cities...we'll do the cities when they are older) so we are leaving Maine today to go to PEI as soon as Ian finishes up the new solar panels and then next week we'll be in NS.

  9. Bob...Yes, it is warmer which is nice to see. Glad you are enjoying Nova Scotia through us.

Sam and Donna...Thanks Sam. We are doing great and Whiskey says hi to Riggs and Saddie.

where's weaver...He was in the wild but not the prettiest setting, still was great to see him up close.

Contessa...We found another one even closer for last night.

Jim and Sandie...Keep looking you'll see one, one day.

    Sue and Doug...Thank you!

Brooke...No problem that is one of the reasons we tell people about them. If you have questions on any of them, don't hesitate to email us and we will try to give you more info. We find that churches, community centres and fishing wharfs/harbours are great places.

    Donna...Thanks!

  11. Karen and Steve...Not sure it is that easy for him. The tanks are covered with netting to protect the fish, but I am sure they still get the odd one or he wouldn't be there.
