Unlawful to feed the wildlife

We have been breaking this rule every day since we made it to Kejimkujik National Park. The mosquitoes are soooo friendly here that we can't help but to feed them!

Went for a couple of smaller hikes yesterday, as well as a nice bike ride. This park is actually suited more for bicycle riders than hikers. We had our bike ride take us through the large campground. There are around 360 campsites here, but only about 90 of them are serviced with electric and water.

It is NOT cold out. However the mosquitoes are VERY hungry.

Nice level treed campsite. Too bad they are so expensive.

The 90 serviced sites were about half full, and they will probably be close to full for the holiday long weekend here in Canada which begins tomorrow. But the unserviced sites were virtually empty.

Saw a deer and her fawn while out for our bike ride

Got a little closer before they took off into the forest

Parked up beside the river having dinner

And then around 8:30pm we left the park. Found a fantastic overnight spot just outside the park limits, but right beside the road. It was totally quiet overnight, until the logging trucks started at around 6am. No problem, we moved back into the park at 7am this morning and went for a 6km (3.7 mile) bike ride and then a 5km (3.0 mile) hike, all before 10:00am! Really have to keep moving because the mosquitoes are pretty bad!

Forgot to get a pic and GPS coordinates of our parking spot last night, but we're going there again tonight!

  1. The mosquitoes really seem to be miserable everywhere this year. Must be because of all the rain and water we've got. Loved the title and explanation of this post.

  2. I'm sure glad we don't have any of that blood sucking type of wildlife here in Vienna! Gah!
If there's one mosquito in the entire city, it will get inside and head straight for my wife, which is of course my fault.
There was a time there that I thought the municipalities were trying to lower the mosquito population due to the West Nile scare, but I guess that doesn't count for rural N.S.
    Slather on that DEET!

  8. Jim and Sandie...I think a lot of it does have to do with the amount rain we had this year. We sortta figured it would be a banner year for them at the start of the season.

Bob...Guess we will have to come to Vienna then. Don't think they spray anymore and we certainly don't hear anything about the West Nile virus in the news anymore.

Levonne...No problem and hope you enjoy our travels.

Toyin O...Nope mosquitoes are no fun, but I guess it is part of life and we will just have to deal with them.

George and Suzie...Dealing with the mosquitoes is better than a day at the office though.

Life's a Journey...We'll only use it if we really have too, we really hate the stuff, mind you we hate the mosquitoes more.

Sue and Doug...We didn't have Whiskey with us when we saw the deer. Maybe these family dogs that were attacked were chasing the deer, then I don't blame the mother for fighting back to protect her young.
