We left the Apple Hill Campground yesterday morning, and drove the 6 miles or so into the town of Littleton. Found a free parking lot downtown behind the community center, and close enough to the library to be able to use their wifi internet from the inside of the motorhome.
Littleton is a town of about 6,000 people, very close to the border of Vermont. It has quite a bit of shopping for a small town because of course Hew Hampshire has no sales tax so people from Vermont will come here to shop. There is a Walmart, a Lowes, a Home Depot, a Staples, and many small shops.
We spent the morning getting caught up on the internet, then took the little car for a drive looking for an overnight spot. Lots of choice, especially a couple of empty lots on an industrial park road. And, of course there's the Walmart. But we ended up at Home Depot. We need some new window roller blinds for Sherman and Home Depot has the machine to cut them to the proper size. So I asked if we brought Sherman over and got the measurements could we park overnight in their lot, and they said sure. Besides, I'm sure it was a lot quieter here than at Walmart. We slept fine last night.
So we did some shopping yesterday and picked up a few tax free items because we'll be heading into Vermont soon. I think we'll hang around Littleton another day though, we want to go for a walk downtown and they have a nice looking biking trail that we'll try if the weather looks okay.
Other than that, it was a relaxing day!
I need to ask..you spend most of your time boondocking which is a very 'thrifty way' of rving..do you have solar panels to charge the batteries or just a generator..what about 'dumping the tanks and filling the water again'??..do you have problems finding 'dump stations?'
ReplyDeleteSome interesting stops along your route across Vermont might be the cities of St. Johnsbury and Montpelier. Also the tours at Cabot Cheese in Cabot and Ben & Jerry's in Waterbury Center.
ReplyDeleteOh didn't know that NH had no sales tax. See? Learn something new every day!

That is a good idea for getting your blinds. We have thought of getting replacement blinds at Home Depot, since they have a type we like. We wondered if we could just bring the motorhome over and have the measurements done there and cut on the spot. Now we know-thanks!
ReplyDeleteGotta love hanging out in small towns, dealing with local merchants and saving money at the same time.
ReplyDeleteSue and Doug...Yes, we do have solar panels. We have three 80W panels and four 6V deep cycle batteries and that gives us plenty of power along with a 1700W invertor. This gives us power to spare unless we aren't moving anywhere and have 3 days of cloudy weather. As for dump stations and refilling our water tank we can go for close to two weeks without needing either. Ususally it is the freshwater that becomes our first need, but so far we haven't had any issues, even in Mexico. If we can't find a free dump station or nearly free then we will find a cheap campground and spend a night but that doesn't happen to often.
ReplyDeletecatman...Definitely hitting the Cabot Cheese Factory, we love their cheese.
Karen and Steve...There are actually 5 States that have no sales tax and NH is one, so this was the time to do any shopping that needed to be done.
Chuck and Anneke...We drove over and Kevin actually took in the old blinds so that we knew for sure that they would get cut to the correct length. Sherman is looking even better now.
George and Suzie...Love saving money!
