A nice summer day

It is so nice that summer has arrived in the Annapolis Valley. Finally, shorts and t-shirt weather!

We are parked in the country among farmers fields, and the secondary roads in this area are not busy...there are almost as few cars as there are farm tractors that go by! So it's a nice area to go for a bicycle ride...

Ruth needs a new bike though. This one is a cheapo Walmart bicycle that we had bought for our son Alex, probably more than 10 years ago! And the sun and sea salt from being in Mexico has just about taken it's toll on it. We'll look for a used replacement when we get parked up in Ottawa next month. And mine needs some cables replaced, but is in otherwise serviceable condition.

Anyhow, we had a nice 10km (6.2 mile) bike ride through farm country.

On our way to Lindsey's, we stopped at The Source to buy a couple of two way radios that they have on sale for $29.95, regular $64. When we leave for Ottawa on Wednesday we will have the car with us so Ruth will be following in the little car while I drive Sherman. With a couple of two way radios, we can talk to each other. They say this particular model is good for 25kms (15 miles) but even if that's an unrealistic expectation they should still work fine for the distances we want them for. Anyhow, they were sold out but have ordered another set in for us and we should be able to pick them up Tuesday afternoon.

Then we were on grandparenting duty last night while Lindsey and Justin went to spend the evening with friends.

Today is starting off beautiful, not a cloud in the sky. We're going for a hike to an area called Cape Split, and Lindsey, Justin, and Cameron are coming with us. It's a long hike at 16 kms (10 miles) so we're leaving Whiskey behind this time.

  3. Gotta love the summer weather, its about time for you guys. And the two way radios do work well when traveling together. 25 kms might work on a line of site like ours.

  7. We have even used our 2 way radios while shopping in Mexico, Colin waits outside with the dogs while I go in but sometimes questions about purchases come up! What happened to your ads?

  8. We have always liked 2-way radios, really got good usage out of them when we were traveling separately on that job for a few months, when Jerry was driving the Penske truck and me the rig.

  9. We use them for backing into a sight... and also for testing the taillights/brakelights/turnsignals with me standing out back while steveio is at the helm. Then he pulls ahead to be sure both levers pop up on our tow bar for the toad as I walk alongside. I let him know when all is good and he is SUPPOSED to stop and let me in. Sometimes he threatens to just drive away on me... gasp!

  10. The radios will come in handy when Cameron gets older and wants to ride his bike at a campground, I make my grandson Adam carry one and check in with me or Grandma every 30 minutes or so just so we know he is okay. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.

  11. Thank you everyone for your comments on the two way radios and all your great ideas for how use them. We definitely think they will be a good purchase.

We've really been enjoying the great weather and trying to get out in it as much as possible, it's been too long in coming.
