Route south

Well it's only 10 days until we leave so we were looking at our route south. We have a few things we want to see along the way, and I've included some of them on the map below, but we've been known to stray as we find things to do that are close to our plan.

Here's the route as far as the Mexico border...

3600 kms (2,200 miles) in 18 days.

We normally like to travel no more than 200 kms (120 miles) per day. So on average, this trip plan works perfectly. However we're going to do the first half of the trip very quickly because we would rather spend more time in Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.

So, the first half of the trip takes us to (D) to visit Sam and Donna near St. Louis. They've been following our travels for a long time and we're looking forward to meeting them. Plus, we've never been to St. Louis before! It's 1,800 kms (1,100 miles) from here, so it's about half way but we're going to do that first half in five days. Along the way we hope to stop in and see John and Ellen in New York State before heading to (B) Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania. Then, we're going to (C) the town of Zoar, Ohio where there is a bike trail we want to use.

After St. Louis, we want to go to (E) Ozark National Scenic Riverways National Park and spend a few days there. Then, we'll meander our way south to the border!

If any of you readers see that we're going to be close to you, don't hesitate to send us a note and we'd love to stop in and say hello!

Can't wait to get on the road again, but before we do we're looking forward to seeing daughter Lindsey and grandson Cameron who arrive here this coming Wednesday!

  2. Kevin and Ruth, we would love it if you are able to stop. We may be at Cranberry Lake (full hookups there) in the Adirondacks or we could be home here in Florence (Camden area). Either way, we can easily accommodate you, Whiskey, and Sherman. We are already looking forward to your visit!

  5. Do you know when you will be in the Zoar area? I have to have eye surgery, and we possibly will be here for a while. I find out on Thursday when I am scheduled. Do you know where you are staying when in this area?
When you are in St. Louis, DO NOT MISS the "The Big Bang Bar"! Entertainers take a seat on stage behind two grand pianos and combine music, comedy and audience interaction. It is so much fun. Get there early...the place gets packed!

Jim and Sandie...I am sure that sometime over the years our paths will cross.

FULL-TIMERS...OCT. 17, 2009...Too bad we will miss each other. We are going to try and bike the Towpath Bike Trail that you wrote about on your blog and we will keep "The Big Bang Bar" in mind.

    Chuck and Anneke...Sure hope so.

WBY...Yep, Alberta is a little out of our way.

Sue and Doug...Love meeting fellow bloggers there will never be a lack of something to talk about.

Donna...We are looking forward to exploring parts unknown. Maybe we will meet up sometime in the future.

Lynne...Your link is great. The spring definitely looks beautiful, love your pictures. Thanks for the suggestion, we will definitely try to make it there.

Kenny and Angela...Sorry, you will be a few hundred miles off our route and that is just a little too much of a detour for us as we are headed toward the Ozarks.
