Saturday

I got some more of the old carpet cut out from around the entrance steps. We're going to replace it with the same fake hardwood laminate that we're putting through the kitchen and bathroom. Of course they had it held in there with a gazillion staples, but I guess that'a the way they do it. At least it never came apart in 16 years!

And Ruth took everything out of the cupboards in the bedroom and cleaned them out and sorted everything. And she sorted through everything stored under the bed as well.

I also removed the faceplate from the stove and repainted it. The lower part of it was rusty and the paint was peeling. You used to be able to buy this piece new, but it is now obsolete so I took it apart and cleaned it up with some Tremclad ani-rust spray paint.

Before

After. Can't really see the work I did, but it turned out well!

Today, we're off to Home Depot to buy the fake hardwood laminate flooring and other supplies to finish the job. I still have half a box leftover from when I did the kitchen floor three years ago, and they tell me that same brand and style is still available so I only need one more box ($56 for 24 sq ft) to finish the job.

  1. Check another job done, amazing what a little bit of paint will do, soon you will be ready to hit the road.

  2. A little elbow grease and some paint make's a big difference. That's what we do with our 1988 Tioga and she looks pretty good for her age.

  7. Looking good. You do realize that all your prep is kinda pushing us to get busy to hit the road also! Better start out 'to do' list.

  8. I honestly think the older motorhomes are never "finished", there's always something to do on it, but it makes it interesting doesn't it!
I can see the difference in the paint job, mine isn't looking that great either so might have to do it as well!

    Cheers!

  9. We are watching you with great interest. My wife and I expect to hit the Mexican border around mid November. Seeing your progress with Sherman, I hope I can get all my work done in time.

    Keep up the good work.

  11. Thanks again for all the encouraging comments. Our list is certainly getting smaller, Kevin has been doing a super job getting Sherman to look all new and spiffy. He (Sherman) is going to have a huge smile on his face as he rolls along down the road next week. It really is amazing how lots of elbow grease and a little paint can make a difference as many of you have said.

Contessa...Better get at it, the will fly by before you know it.

WBY...Yes, I think there is always stuff to do on an older motorhome but I am sure when you talk to someone with a new motorhome, they can always find something to needs to be done as well.

Paul...Maybe we will have a chance to meet up somewhere in Mexico. Hope your work is progressing as well.
