We got an early start out of the Round Spring Campground yesterday morning. We took advantage of the facilities and had a nice quick hot shower. Then on our way out we used the dump station for the first time this trip, and topped up our fresh water tank.
Crossed the border into Arkansas and stopped for lunch in the town of Viola . Again, we used their town library internet.
Lots of twisty curvy roads yesterday. We even saw one sign that warned of steep windy roads for the next 20 miles! So we took it anyhow, and although it was slow going it really wasn’t that bad. Sherman has been on much worse roads!
Backroads of Arkansas.
It rained on and off all day, but never more than showers. Didn’t see the sun all day!
Finally pulled into Blanchard Springs Caverns in the Ozark National Forest just after 4:00pm. The caves are open until 6:00pm, but the last tour was at 4:30pm. We went in and thought about going, but the difficult tour that we wanted to do wasn’t being done after Labor Day so we decided not to spend the $10 each doing the easy tour. We’ve been in a lot of caves and we like exploring caves, but we’re more critical now about spending our money on them.
So we drove around to the Blanchhard Springs Campground. This is a nice National Forest campground with paved unserviced sites at $10 a night. Not many level sites, and rigs over 32 feet might have difficulty. Sherman found a good site though!
Sherman, parked up for the night.
We watched the original Godfather (1972) movie last night. Almost made it through the whole thing, but still have a half hour or so to go. We don’t think we have ever watched that movie which is very surprising. It’s good entertainment and I can see why it’s a classic.
Wish the sun would shine here. Like the header picture.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you guys have made it to Arkansas, it might start getting a little warmer another 100 miles south. The Godfather series is required watching for us Americans of Italian heritage. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna...PS I used to tear off a end of the Italian bread and dip it n the sauce, just like in the movie.
ReplyDeletesounds like some nice back country that you are exploring, making for a great memorable trip.
ReplyDeleteGlad you arrived safely in Arkansas ~ my daughter lives there but closer to Oklahoma... near Fort Smith! That is where they filmed a lot of True Grit and there is a lot of history...
ReplyDeleteHave fun
Donna
I remember that there was a lot of back roads in Arkansas:) Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteKenny and Angela...We wish it would shine too! We only saw it for a short time yesterday and the rest of the day it threatened to rain. This morning the rain hasn't let up!
ReplyDeleteSam and Donna...It has gotten warmer but not sunnier. We thought the Godfather movie was pretty good. Can't figure out why it took so long for us to watch it?
George and Suzie...Definitely some beautiful countryside to see from the back roads.
Donna...I guess next time we drive through we will have to visit that area. We enjoyed the original movie but not the recent remake of it.
Chuck and Anneke...There sure are a lot of back roads here with some beautiful scenery.
