Near Camden, New York

We enjoyed our time visiting Ruth's Dad and want to say a big "thank you" for putting up with us and letting us use the shop and tools to fix up Sherman!

We left at around 7:50am, which was later than our planned 7:30am start. We were supposed to be at the Canadian Tire in Kemptville for 9:00am for Sherman's emissions test, and we made it at 9:05. They took us in right away, and as expected, Sherman passed with flying colors and the bill was $35 plus tax.

There was a (lack of) "Service Ontario" outlet in Kemptville so we went there to get the license plate sticker. But  they didn't have a February 2014 sticker in stock because whoever was in charge of that forgot to order them. So the guy gets on the phone and tries to track one down for me at a place that's along our route. The location in Brockville wouldn't even answer their phone. And the one in Prescott just had an answering machine come on.

But he found one in the town of Smith's Falls, which was a little out of our way, but not bad.

By the time we made it to get the new sticker, it was after 12:00 noon! But at least it's done!

So then we took the backroads down to the Alexandria border crossing into New York. We got lucky with the border guard and after a few questions he decided to send us on our way into the great U.S. of A.

New York at the Thousand Islands region of the St. Lawrence River

We stopped in Watertown, NY and bought a few groceries and had a late lunch. Then only another hour or so down the I-81 to the exit towards John and Ellen 's house.

We had originally met fellow RV'ers John and Ellen at Mammoth Cave National Park back in November of last year, and then again in South Carolina last March. They invited us to stop in on our way south, so we were driveway camping last night! Ellen made a nice supper for us, then we took the dogs for a walk and then had a fun game of Euchre.

Driveway camping at John and Ellen's

We have a long drive today into Pennsylvania, so we're getting an early start. It's raining, but I haven't checked the forecast so hopefully it will clear up.

Yesterday's drive, 327 kms (203 miles)

  1. You are on your way now! We just met a couple who are newbie FTers, before going FT they lived in Guadlahara for a year. I am going to give them your site, they loved Mexico so I thought they might like to see how they could FT in Mexico. So watch for Terry and Lu.

  2. We love to play Euchre. It is amazing how many people we met that have no idea if it is a card game or a domino game. It looks like a long day and rain is not a welcome sight! Good luck! We pray for your safe travels.!

  4. Your well on your way, how will you be coming west through Pa, When we go to Scranton, we use I-81 to I80 west, then stay on it into Ohio to I-76 and then I-71, until Bellevue just north of Columbus where we take I-465 bypass to I-70 west. Then it's all the way to I-270west, 370 west, and then back on I-70 west to the Bryan Road exit.Plenty of state parks along the way to stop and plenty of Bug store places to boondock. Were waiting. be safe out there. Sam & Donna...

  11. We are so glad you were able to stop by for a visit. Thanks for the great company and the cards. Maybe next time we can get some Cribbage in too. Believe it or not, I have some idea of what I am doing with Cribbage, not sure I will ever be better at Euchre. Safe Travels!!!

“Moochdocking” made us both laugh. Malone (and all others too), we would love to have you here for a visit. We also have a spot in the Adirondacks in the Cranberry Lake area with full hookups. This is where we typically keep our motorhome during the summer and early fall.

  18. Janie and John...Thanks, we'll keep our eyes open for them.

FULL-TIMERS...OCT. 17, 2009...It is surprising how many people have just never heard of it. I've been playing it since I was a teenager, we would play it during our lunch hour in high school.

Kevin and Evelyn...Hopefully there will be many adventures, the good kind of course!

Sam and Donna...We will use the interstates only when we need too, we prefer the country roads. They are usually quieter and less busy and prettier.

Donna..."Moochdocking", I love that term, we'll have to remember it. We did have a great time with John and Ellen.

Sandra...Too bad we missed you. Maybe next time we come back my Dad's for a visit we can meet up. We were just too busy for that this time though.

    George and Suzie...Thanks!

Malone...I hope you make it out there some time soon. The area is beautiful. Got behind on reading up on your Alaska trip. I will catch up on it soon. Hope you had a great time.

Elaine...Yep, once the sticker and the border crossing were out of the way, we felt like our work was done and that we could sit back and enjoy the ride.

Sue and Doug...Yep, we love the new views. Always changing!

John and Ellen...Thank you once again for all your hospitality and friendship. We had such a great time. Don't sell yourself short on euchre, you did just fine, we won't hesitate to play with you anytime.

pweaver...We were happy our border crossing went so well. You just never know what to expect when you cross.

WBY...Anytime, you'll have to come to us though!

Chris...So were we. Looking forward to seeing you guys.

Contessa...Won't be long and you will be on the road too!

Chuck and Anneke...Hopefully the rain won't last long. Yesterday was better.

Karen and Steve...Hope we can keep things interesting for everyone. You'll have to come down and visit us.
