The first part of the drive was through Allegheny National Forest. It's a really pretty area, although Ruth didn't take any pictures on the way through. Too busy playing with her new MS Streets and Trips GPS, I guess! We would like to go back to this forest at some point. It looks like there are lots of trails, and lots of spots to pull off and do some free camping.
Then it was on to the Interstate.
Typical Interstate
A nice view of the town of Emlenton, PA from the I-80
Part of our driving plan was to avoid the congestion between Youngston, OH and Pittsburg, PA. We did a pretty good job of that! We didn't know where we were stopping for the night, and we had to do some groceries anyhow so we found a Walmart at New Philadelphia, Ohio and by then it was around 5:00pm so decided to stay the night. Again, there were lots of signs saying no campers, but we went in and asked and they pointed us to a corner where they said we would be fine. And we slept okay, except Whiskey had a bit of a coughing fit and that kept us up a while. She seems better this morning.
Headed for a Harvest Hosts winery tonight, but it's going to be a 300 mile day around Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, most of it on the Interstate. Oh well, we'll be able to relax for a while when we arrive at Sam and Donna's on Saturday afternoon.
Thursday's drive, 235 miles (376 kms)
The lights on and the welcome mat out. We'll have some wine, a puperoni, and chairs waiting

Looks like you guys are making good progress, if you are going to use i-70 west, In my opinion there's no advantage to take the bypasses around Indianapolis and Columbus. you will probably hit a little construction in the Indy area, it has been going all summer,It is actually faster just to stay on I-70 through these two cities, good road, I used to take the Trailways motor coach that way.Make sure though when you get to the I-270 West Kansas City exit you take I-270. this is about 18 miles from the Mississippi River, have your camera ready for some bridge shots, the it's just about 10 miles to the US370 exit which takes you into St Peters MO and back to I-70, Then your home free as the Bryan Rd exit is about 12 miles west. Donna and I will be around the house so call when you get close if you need detailed directions. My driveway Weeb Ln is in Streets and trips under O'Fallon MO. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna. PS Donna's been telling Rigg's & Sadie they are getting company too.
ReplyDeleteWe were in the Allegheny Forest last fall when all the trees were changing color. It was breathtaking. You guys are going to have so much fun with Sam and Donna. Drive safe and good luck through the cities.
