Tepic

We got ourselves set up in the Los Pinos campground in the city of Tepic. The campground itself has been here for many years, and the city has grown around it. Now, you have to enter below an arch that is part of a little shopping plaza and if you didn't know it was here, you might have a hard time finding it.

But we already had the GPS co-ordinates (21.48169 -104.89250) and we had no trouble at all. There was a small European rig here when we pulled in, but they left shortly afterwards and never came over to say hello. Then just before lunch, a couple from California pulled in with an older Class C. We spoke to them for a while, they have been coming to Mexico for about 30 years.

The long dormant volcano outside the city of Tepic.

Coming into the city of Tepic on the main toll highway.

We needed to pick up some groceries, so I looked up the directions. Tepic is a city of 300,000 people so they have all of the major grocery chains. Walmart, Ley, Soriana, Chedraui. These are all decent places to shop for groceries in Mexico. We decided on the Walmart because it was closest, but it turned out the Ley store was pretty much right across the street. We walked there from the campground, it was about 2 kms. Did our grocery shopping and took a taxi back to the campground. The taxi was 35 pesos ($2.73), and the guy was a TERRIBLE driver. But, you just grin and bear it, and keep your fingers crossed and your eyes closed.

But we made it back, safe and sound. Got the groceries unpacked, and relaxed for the rest of the day.

The rig at the far left has been here what looks like forever. Nobody in it. Then there's Sherman, and our neighbours from California.

Today, we need to find a laundry, and then we're going to walk into the central area of Tepic and wander around. It's pretty far, almost four kms, so we will probably walk there and then take a bus or taxi back. We'll see how we feel.

  3. Looks like a nice peaceful campground and pretty handy area. Taxi rides in Mexico are always a hair raising experience, but probably safer than trying to drive yourself in the cities.

Your campground looks rather unique with all the grass and no gravel. Looks really nice.

  6. It is a great road but an expensive toll road.

Looking forward to getting together with you here in Mazatlan. We are still in palapa construction. It just might be completed a week past it's due date.

  7. I looked on Google Streetview... That certainly is an 'interesting' entrance to the RV Park... Looks like it could be a challenge for larger rigs.

    Your pictures are always interesting!

  8. Too bad more people aren't rving in Mexico, the parks are all so empty. I'm afraid if it keeps up, there won't be many left.
