Arrived at the Cadillac Ranch RV Park where it appears they are still cleaning up from the hurricane two months ago. Still, there are probably 7 or 8 rigs here, and the owner Don quickly found us a parking spot for a night or two. Then went and said hello to Ryan, a guy we had met at Hacienda Contreras a couple of years ago.
Yesterday's drive, only 20 kms!
After lunch, we walked the 2 kms or so into town. Barra de Navidad was hit fairly hard by Hurricane Jova in October, and some of the damage and repair work is certainly evident.

Walking through town
Barra doesn't have the nicest beach, which is probably why the town of Melaque at the other end of the bay has become more developed by tourism and the ex-pat community.
This building appears to have been damaged by large waves eroding the base of the structure during the hurricane. Notice that the palapas on the roof don't appear to have been damaged by strong winds.
On our way back from our walk, we were looking for a fruit and vegetable store. We stopped to ask a lady who was sitting at a sidewalk cafe. She gave us directions, but also asked if we would like to sit and chat. Soon, her husband arrived, and then two more friends. The ex-pat community here seems fairly close knit with a lot of people who know one another. We were thirsty, so we enjoyed sitting and talking with them!
Kathy, Rick, Kelly, Cheryl, and Ruth
We have been invited by one of our readers to visit them in Melaque, so we are going to ride our bikes over there this morning and explore that town. We think we'll leave here after lunch though, there was a lot of loud music from a nightclub on the highway and I didn't sleep the best because of it. Being a Saturday, I expect it will continue tonight and I would rather not be here. Besides, we still have 282 kms (175 miles) to do before next Wednesday and we wouldn't want to have to do it all in one day, would we?!
Another nice place to visit and meeting the expats would have been nice as well. !75 miles in Mexico in one day? That would be a long travel day for you guys. a bit a a time is always better.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour. I'm with you all the way on 12 miles as a great distance to go from campground to campground rather than 175.
ReplyDeletelooks like you've had another great day in paradise :)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that the palapas survived. Amazing.
