The original plan was to spend the night in Sherman at the Acapulco airport. But, as is typical at airport parking lots, the parking was going to cost almost as much as we paid at the trailer park the night before.
We had stopped at a brand new Chedraui super store only about 3 kms from the airport and had asked security of we could park there for the night. This was our backup plan in case the airport thing didn't work out. So after we said goodbye to Lindsey and Cameron, we headed back to the big new Chedraui.
As we sat out the afternoon, a couple from Quebec (who's English was about as bad as our French) came over to ask if we wanted to sell our bicycles. My bike is actually a good quality one, but it's about 6 years old now and looking tired. Ruth's bike we bought in September at Walmart in the U.S. for $125 and it was already looking tired. Plus, it's junk to begin with and all the gear changing mechanisms have seized up. Never buy a cheap bicycle! Anyhow, this guy wanted to buy Ruth's bike. We made a deal for 800 pesos ($64) and he rode it away. Too funny, making a deal for a used bicycle in a parking lot in Acapulco! Strange!
I'll now be totally happy if we can buy a used bike in Mexico for the same 800 pesos, and I bet we can.
Huge new Chedraui superstore.
This store is huge, and very well stocked. Much better than the Walmart a few kms down the road, and easier parking for an RV. GPS co-ordinates are 16.77057 -99.77340.
This morning we are driving about 300 kms (186 miles) inland, up towards Mexico City. But, it's all on a beautiful (although expensive) four lane toll highway. Looking forward to a change of scenery and the cooler mountain air! The beach is nice, but after 5 weeks of it, we're ready to head for the hills!
Just catching up on your blog, looks so pretty where you are!
ReplyDeleteAwww I'm going to miss the beach. Is there really such a thing as too much? I guess if the temps are in the 90's all the time. Guess I'll see you in the mountains.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Lindsey and Cameron got home safely. We sure think Nova Scotia is gorgeous.

Nice that Lindsey and Cameron are now safely home, and you are heading to new exciting places with a nice change in climate. You made a pretty good deal on the bike. After 5 weeks on the beach a break is quite nice.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet Lindsay is wishing she was back at the beach about now.
ReplyDeleteHard to say...although we think she had a great time with us, she was very much missing her husband!
DeleteHave fun and be safe. I love the beach, but I'd love to see Mexico City.
ReplyDeleteAt last, you are going to a place I am familiar with.(D.F.). I want you to go and eat at Boca Del Rio. Here is a link... http://www.restaurantebocadelrio.com.mx/sancosme/.
ReplyDeleteThis is where the locals go and the price is great.
Thanks Michael...we will make the effort to go there. Any suggestions of "must see" attractions?
DeleteI gotta say, I love Mexico City. Be sure to ride the Metro, tour Chapultepec Park, climb The Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, and don't forget the Floating Gardens of Xochimilco. D.F. is the largest city in our hemisphere. BTW, the food is most excellent!
DeleteGlad the kids got back there safe. I am sure father and son are enjoining a great reunion.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new bike...Ruth...where ever you might fine it.
I'm like you, I love the beach but I also love the mountains, so a balance is good.
ReplyDeleteThat was a good day at the supermarket-free parking and a bike sale:)
ReplyDeleteGood to know about parking at Chedraui, my favorite of all the Mexican grocery stores. Looking forward to the next part of your trip.
ReplyDeleteGood luck. Looking forward to your Mexico City adventures.
ReplyDeleteThat bike story is just too strange! I wonder what prompted him to approach you instead of buying a bike locally?
ReplyDeleteGlad to Hear Lindsay & Cameron are back safe in expensive Canada,Hope you guys can save a few bucks over those expensive tolls, you are incurring, no wonder the highways look empty. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna..
