Laguna Larga, Michoacan

We left Valle de Bravo at around 8:30am and stopped to put 1,000 pesos ($80) worth of gas in the motorhome. Then a steep climb out of the valley, and headed towards the city of Morelia.

Only one short section of toll road, but well worth the 63 pesos ($5) to avoid a very twisty windy free road.

This is the toll road on the east side of Zitacuaro.

Beautiful scenery along the way.

The road going into the mountains from Ciudad Hidalgo hardly had anyone on it. Well, except for this guy!

Sherman is parked on the far right.

We made it up to Laguna Larga. I had read about this spot and there are a few campestres and hot springs parks up here. And I say "up here" because we are now at 9,300 feet altitude! We found a great spot by the lake, and paid 160 pesos ($12.80) to dry camp for the night. But this also includes use of the hot springs pools so it's not a bad deal, plus it's a pretty spot. We are at GPS 19.79665 -100.68707

We went for a walk around the lake.

There are several thermal hot springs pools.

We have a nice view of the lake.

Sherman is happy here, so we think we'll stay another night! Besides, there is a cell tower up here in the middle of nowhere, so we have internet. Because of the altitude the temperature went down to about 4C (42F) last night, and it was 9C (48F) inside the motorhome when we woke up. Beautiful sunny day today, so we'll sit in the hot springs and go for a hike!

Yesterday's drive, 150 kms (93 miles).
