The flight was uneventful and we landed a little ahead of schedule. Two other international flights came in at the same time though so it took us an hour to get through customs. Then, a shuttle to the car rental center from the airport, and another shuttle to the Fox Rent-a-Car center for our cheap $128 (tax included) car rental.
Our first view of Vegas.
The car rental guy tried really hard to upgrade us and sell us all their various rip-off "insurance" coverage, but he wasn't successful. They put us into a Hyundai Elantra, haven't checked what year it is yet, but it's got 50,000 miles on it and it's a little beat up. But that's what you get for $128 tax included, so I took 15 minutes and wrote down all the damage and took photos of it all. And we were on the road in Vegas!
We headed towards the suburb of Henderson where our couchsurfing hosts live. Stopped at a the Fiesta casino on our list and got $3 each to play the slot machines for free. Turned that $6 free play into $4.53 cold hard cash! And we walked away. By this time it was close to 6:00pm and they had a dinner buffet deal for club members at $7.99 each so we had a good dinner.
Fiesta casino gave us $4.53!
Then we headed to another nearby casino, but they wanted us to have 100 points of play on your card before you got any freebies. But they gave us each a deck of playing cards, so we walked away happy.
Then made it to Mick and Sandy's place. They have a beautiful home on the hill overlooking Las Vegas. Just an amazing view of the city at night and I'll try and get a photo of the lights at night before we leave. Had a great evening chatting with them. People who have been all over the world are always interesting to us! They even lived on a sailboat for 7 years back in the eighties!
Taken at sunrise this morning.
Today, we're off to the strip and then meeting friends Geoff and Fran who we workcamped with in Prince Edward Island back in 2008.
We are following along closely. You are laying out trip to Vegas. What is the name of the second casino you visited? We may skip that one. How do you find these couchsurfing hosts? Until I started following you two, I have never heard of them. ~wheresweaver

ReplyDeleteSince the airline kept your visitor visa when u left Mexico will you have to get another one when u fy back or can u get before you leave Vegas ?
ReplyDeleteBreak the bank !
A new tourist visa will be issued to us when we return to Mexico, it is included in the price of the flight. You have to hand your old one in when you leave Mexico.
DeleteI'm just sitting here chuckling.
ReplyDeleteHave to say I was impressed by the view of Vegas when coming up route 95. We were on our way back from a Kingman, Laughlin round trip, and when you come over the crest of the hill and see all the lights, it's quite something.
Have fun!
If the line for customs was less than 1 1/2 hours, they would probably lay off a customs agent. Have a great time.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time in Vegas and good luck!
ReplyDeleteHave a great time! Our family loved Vegas a few years ago. Hope you win some money!
ReplyDeleteAs Austin would say, "yeah baby". Roll that seven, come on seven! I have my fingers crossed.
