Quitupan and a parade

We relaxed for the morning yesterday and then we hopped in a taxi with Doug and Nancy to go visit the nearby town of Quitupan. We had never been there before so it was a new experience for us all.

It's a clean quiet little farming town in a steep valley. There is one hotel there and it's located on the side of one of the hills and there are 350 steps to get up to the hotel from the center of town.

Ruth and Doug taking a break on the steps.

Looking down on the rooftops of Quitupan.

We walked back down on the road.

And wandered around town.

We had arranged with our taxi driver to meet us back at the central plaza at 2:30pm and he arrived to pick us up right on the button. It was 30 kms (18 miles) for the return trip and the total cost was 200 pesos ($16.00) which is pretty reasonable when you're sharing with another couple.

At 4:15pm we hopped in the truck with Sal and Barb to go into town for the parade. As we left the campground, we noticed the the gate to the pen where Donkey is kept had been left open by one of the workers and Donkey was gone! We went out on the road, and sure enough there was Donkey on his way into town. Had to get him roped up, and Sal walked him back home.

Hey Buddy, get yourself a horse!

This parade was a local thing put on by the kids at the nearby community college. You could tell the kids had a lot of fun, and Sal and Barb drove their truck pulling one of the floats. We're not exactly sure what the event was, although there was obviously some kind of princess idea because each float was done in a different theme with a girl who was  in the running to win whatever it was they were winning.

After the parade we went to the central plaza and sat outside our favorite enchilada restaurant and had supper. The kids were putting on a talent show and of course crowning the winner but we didn't stay to the end. Sure was fun though!

The talent show.

We're going to have another fun day today...we're going to another Mexican wedding! This is our third one this winter, and Doug and Nancy get to go to their first Mexican wedding!

Time to go vote! We will be in first place in our division today. This morning, we are only 62 votes behind the leaders, so I'm guessing that around noon today we will be in first place. But we can't slack off. If we can overtake these people, someone else could overtake us! The voting doesn't end until June 7, so there's lots of time left.

Thanks for taking 5 seconds out of your day to help us win a trip to Australia!

    1. One of our favourite towns in Mexico is Valle de Juarez which is just next door to Quitupan. We really enjoyed our morning exploring this little town. So glad we could rekindle some old memories for you.
