First off, it's our son Alex's 24th birthday today. How time flies! Alex is running a half-marathon this morning in Plattsburgh, N.Y., in preparation for running his first full marathon towards the end of May. (Update: He ran 13.1 miles in 1:29:45 which works out to 6 minutes 52 seconds per mile! Came in 30th out of 705 people and 6th out of 98 in his age bracket! Good job Alex!)
Our son Alex, during his playing days at Plattsburgh University.
Happy Birthday Alex!
Next, is anybody looking for a short work camping gig in Florida? Second week of May until the end of June.
Friends who own a small motel and RV park in Cedar Key on the gulf coast are looking for caretakers for six weeks. They had someone set up who has cancelled sort of at the last minute. You can bring your own RV, or you can stay in the small house onsite. We've been there, it's a nice little spot.

We did our fruit and veggie shopping at the Saturday market in town yesterday. We love that market! The guy who runs it is hilarious, when he's adding up your purchases he does it so fast he sounds like an auctioneer. Can't understand a word he says until he arrives at the total. And, as he's adding it up he throws in a freebie or two. Yesterday, he tossed in a mango and two more apples as he was doing his rapid calculations.
So, here's what we got...two cantaloupes, four red delicious apples, a mango, broccoli, bag of carrots, bag of potatoes, bag of onions, two green peppers, three small cucumbers, bag of tomatoes. All for 80 pesos ($6.40).
We have been enjoying relaxing here at Hacienda Contreras. We had done so much running around with our trips to Mexico City and Las Vegas that we were due for a break! The weather here is absolutely perfect, and there are no bugs at all. Sunshine and blue sky every day with daytime highs of around 27C (80F) and lows at night around 10C (50F).
Fellow RV travelers Doug and Nancy are on their way to Hacienda Contreras and should be here late next week. This is their first time in Mexico with their VW campervan. They've been reading about our travels in Mexico for the last few years and finally decided to take the plunge themselves! They came down through the Baja and took the ferry from there to the mainland. We're looking forward to their arrival!
Okay, time to vote. Had another record day yesterday with 235 votes. At the current rate, we will be in first place by May 1st! The contest doesn't end until June 7, so we should be able to build a big lead by then.
Thanks everyone, have a great Sunday!
Would love to caretaker there, wish I had the time off!
ReplyDeleteHappy B Day Alex, wow time flies!
Love the header picture, could live there for sure!
Cheers!
Sounds like you are in the perfect place right now.
ReplyDeleteI'm always jealous when you go to the market.
ReplyDeleteI think lovely place for you. Very long time contests. No dpubt.
ReplyDeleteWhat?
ReplyDeleteWhen the English doesn't make a lot of sense, it's usually because it's not.
My last spam comment was from some gambling site. I see this one is for a travel agency written in Russian, but based out of Los Angeles. (Um, Reading Cyrillic script is one of my little long lost secrets. Don't know any more too much what the heck they're saying, since that part of the equation is long gone however.)
I think your spam is more interesting than mine though.
Off to vote!
Vote THEN comment, that's my routine. Love the header picture. I might stay there forever. How about a view picture from your current location. Am eating my heart out at all those great fruits and veggies for $6.40. WOW! A quart of strawberries can cost $5 alone here. A pound of spinach is $6. Grocery bills for two can be in the $150 range if you want to eat real food. :-)
ReplyDeleteYeah, we're a bit scared about going back to Canada and getting sticker shock!
DeleteYou're living my dream, but when I wake up, I'm still here. I guess that means I gotta do it myself one of these days. Vote early and often.
ReplyDelete2502!
ReplyDeleteHow can you see the tallies?
Kent
Not sure what you mean about the tallies. If you mean what everyone's votes are, then you need to go above the picture of Red Centre and click on where it says "ENTRIES". Once that page comes up, then scroll down until you get to the one saying Red Centre and then under that picture you will see a green button saying "See All Entries" and click on that. Scroll down again and it will give you 8 entries and at the bottom of the last entry it will say "Older Entries" and then you just keep going back to see the tallies of everyone's entry in this category. If its just our tally you are looking for, once you vote just refresh the page and you will see the total votes for us. Hope this helps.
DeletePass on our Happy Birthday wishes to Alex.
ReplyDeleteThe numbers are adding up so fast...amazing!
numbers are climbing...we'll get you there and then all you have to do is reward all of us w/ you terrific photos and narrative.
ReplyDeleteWill be able to add additional votes when I get back to work and have a different ip address and remind coworkers to vote.
Donna
Thank you Donna. Hope you, Sam and Riggs are enjoying your time with Paul, Helen and the their dogs.
DeleteHappy Birthday to Alex!! Sounds like he's doing great with his running. My brother has run many marathons both here and abroad. I don't know his times but he is not in Alex's age bracket. He does well for his age though!! Good luck Alex!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Alex! He did really well in his half marathon!
ReplyDeleteHe was very happy with his time. At the end of May he will do his first full marathon and we'll be there to see him.
DeleteWish we were there. Leaving today to SMA with my brother and SIL. Enjoy the weather and no bugs.
