Chicago Best Western Plus Hawthorne Terrace Hotel

We have to put out a special thank you to the Best Western Hawthorne Terrace Hotel in North Chicago. When we decided to profile the city of Chicago, the Hawthorne Terrace , only a ten minute walk from Wrigley Field stepped up to the plate and offered us a place to stay.

The Hawthorne Terrace Hotel in Chicago doesn't feel like a chain hotel, it's what you'd call a "boutique" hotel.

At 3434 North Broadway Avenue.

It was only a two minute walk and then a ten minute express bus ride to the skyscrapers of downtown. And for baseball fans, it's only a ten minute walk from Wrigley Field and the Chicago Cubs.

Really nice neighborhood, with lots of restaurants. And if you have kitchen facilities in your room like we did, there are two large grocery stores within walking distance.

Also, only a five minute walk from the shoreline of Lake Michigan and many walking and biking paths.

And, they have the best included breakfast I've ever seen in a hotel. Lots of different cereal choices, fresh fruit, yogurts, waffles, muffins, egg and sausage on a bun. Or you can just grab an apple or an orange on your way out the door!

I went to go take a picture of the fantastic exercise room with whirlpool and sauna but there were people there and I didn't want to invade their privacy. But it's one of the best exercise rooms I've ever seen in a hotel as well. And the people working there were always friendly and helpful, even the housekeeping staff had a smile for us when we saw them.

Thanks Best Western Hawthorne Terrace, you're the best!

  1. They are getting their monies worth from you. Since you are being so positive, and you are a tell it like it is person, then anyone going to Chicago is going to very seriously consider staying at their hotel. We all like to know where we can stay and have a pleasant experience.

  2. Its always good to have a recommendation on a downtown hotel. I like finding places that are close but not too close, walking always helps work off the extra I tend to eat in those places.

  3. Thanks for the post Kevin. Yes, the Best Western Hawthorne Terrace in Chicago sounds like the kind of quiet hotel I used to like to find when I traveled on business a lot. It let me live a more "homestyle" life. Sometimes when you travel a lot on business eating out is a drag, even if it is on an expense account either way, so a kitchen is nice and the walk to a grocery store is a plus.

  5. Enjoyed the farm photo - nice flat field - what crops do they grow in your area? (We farm - corn and soybeans).

    1. Thank you Connie and Barry. The area around here is really quite pretty with lots of farming. They grow mostly corn and soybeans as well although you sometimes will see some barley (I think).
