Goodbye, Hacienda Contreras...

Last night was our last night. We are leaving Sherman behind and heading out to new adventures for the next five months or so. We spent a lot of time here this winter and enjoyed every minute of it.

To us, the weather is absolutely perfect here during the winter. Can be a little chilly overnight, but beautiful during the day. And there are no bugs! Haven't had any bug bites the whole time we've been here!

Christmas Day, 2011.

Sherman, parked up at Hacienda Contreras.

Ruth at Hacienda Contreras.

Another beautiful sunrise at Hacienda Contreras.

And we can't say enough good things about the owners (and our friends!) Barb and Sal. They bend over backwards to make our time here enjoyable and that's why every time we return it's for a longer stay. When we first arrived here to check the place out in March of 2009, we planned on two nights but we stayed for three. The next time it was for a week, and then longer after that.

Sal and Barb with Don Quixote.

We'll miss you guys, but we'll be back in October!

Oh, a funny thing happened yesterday. I had stepped out of the motorhome to go roll up our extension cord and I heard some noise coming from the big tree that provides the shade for our happy hour spot. I looked over because it sounded like someone was working over there but I didn't see anyone. The noise got louder and all of a sudden one of the largest branches on the tree came crashing down! It was very strange to watch!

I guess Sal has more firewood for next season!

Had a campfire last night with the big full moon. I know it was supposed to be a "super" moon or something like that but to me it just looked like another full moon. Considering I took these photos by hand without a tripod or anything, they came out not bad...

So this afternoon Barb and Sal are driving us to the town of Ajijic on the other side of Lake Chapala. We're staying with a couchsurfing host overnight and then we'll either take a taxi or the local bus to the airport on Monday morning. Our flight to Chicago leaves at 9:40am, so we'll have to get up fairly early because it will probably take a little over 30 minutes to get to the airport even if we take a taxi. And we don't want to risk being late so I think we'll probably take a taxi.

Time to go vote...

  4. Have a nice trip.
...and, I have to say, I'm pretty sure every RV resort should have it's own ass.
    Just a suggestion.

OK fine, Don Quixote is a Donkey, I know. Just can't pass up the "ass" quip.

    Off to vote!

  6. Have a great time coming up to our neck of the woods! Brrrr Lake Michigan is in the frigid 40 degree range. Are you sure you wanna try kayaking in it? LOL

Have a safe flight and hope Sherman don't miss you too much while you are gone!

  11. Looks like the branch was on a gum tree, when you get to Australia never camp directly underneath one as the branches often fall for no reason

  12. Looks like a great safe place for Sherman to hang out for 5 months although he may decide he'd like to take up with someone else while you are gone. Are you sure Don Quixote isn't a burro??

    Safe RVless travels!

    1. Yes, we were lucky we weren't having Happy Hour under the tree, it might not have been so happy! Actually it would have just missed the happy hour table but it sure would have made us jump and run.
