A long time ago they started reading our blog. When they were still working. Nancy says it became a bit of an obsession, she would race home from work, or read it on her lunch hour to see where we had been. She liked the fact that we were traveling "in real time", not just reading about the exploits of travelers who had been somewhere in the past. So way back near the beginning, she got a map of Mexico and started tracing our route of the places we were at in Mexico.
Barb calls it stalking! Well the result of that stalking was that they made it to Mexico! And they brought the map with them so that we could autograph it! Too funny...
"The map". Even we don't have a map of everywhere we've been!
Kevin, Ruth, Nancy, and Doug.
Anyhow, Doug was wanting to come to Mexico with their little campervan, but Nancy was a little apprehensive. After all, Mexico is full of banditos and drugs, right? But from following our blog she came to realize that it's not quite what the media would have you believe. When they retired last fall, they made the decision to head south, and here they are!
"Euri" the campervan, getting ready to head out.
We really enjoyed our week with Doug and Nancy here, and I'm pretty sure we'll bump into them again some day.
We got about half way sorting through our stuff trying to figure out what we need to bring with us for the next five months or so away from Sherman. We will be traveling with two small backpacks and a carry on suitcase. No checked bags for us on the airplanes! And when we head to England, and possibly Europe, we will only be traveling with small backpacks...so you'll see us wearing the same t-shirts all the time! Just kidding, but we will be traveling very light.
Checking the weather in Chicago...looks like it will be sweater or light jacket weather...highs forecast of 63F (17C) and lows of 47F (8C) and possible thunderstorms. But, that can easily change between now and Monday so we'll see!
We've got our schedule pretty much figured out and it's going to be a very busy five days next week!
Was so nice that you met up with Doug and Nancy, now you have a picture of the map of your travels.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the flight and we will try to hold onto the warmer weather for you.
Delightful story. I wish them well with their travels through Mexico.
ReplyDeleteThat map is so great! It must have been quite a thrill for them to meet you!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to follow your European adventure. I totally understand your friends following your travels, even though most of us don't have a map to prove it, we have loved following you through Mexico and can't wait to do the same through Europe and Australia. We have learned so much about frugal travel. Got my daily vote in!
ReplyDeleteWow. Holy obsessive map following there, Batman!
ReplyDeleteOff to vote.
That is all.
Love their van, perfect for Central/South America. Wow, five months away from home.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, to do a map of your travels, their travels, our travels. Not sure they even sell a full map of the U.S. anymore. Everything is state by state.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your header pictures!! This one of the solitary walk is just beautiful.
