The website said the bus was supposed to show up at 9:28am yesterday. This is a long distance bus that originally left from somewhere in Poland, and one of the stops is here in Zuberec. We waited until after 10:00am, and still no bus.
The online schedule said that this service doesn't end until August 31. There was even a schedule posted at the bus stop that said it was to arrive at 9:28am. The grandaughter of our landlady here in Zuberec was waiting for another bus and we spoke to her about it. She said she's never seen that bus! She said that when she wants to go to Liptovsky Mikulas, she always takes the local bus line that comes by at 8:45am. And I had seen that bus advertised, but the 9:28am, one was more convenient for our train connection.
Ruth, waiting for the bus that never came!
So, go to plan B. But we didn't have a plan B. The next bus wasn't until almost 3:00pm and that meant we wouldn't get to our destination at Poprad until somewhere close to 7:00pm and we didn't know where we were staying so it wasn't a good idea to arrive that late.
So we went back to our landlady here. She had already stripped the beds and started cleaning the room, but seemed happy enough to have us come back for another night. We used google translate to ask her if she could do a load of laundry for us and we would pay her extra. She said sure, no problem!
As you can see from today's pictures, it was a clear blue sky all day. So we went to the grocery store again and bought our supplies for lunch, dinner, and breakfast this morning. Went back to the flat, had some lunch, and planned a short 8km (5 mile) walk that went mostly on the roads around the local villages.
Looking back at Zuberec.
This is where we hiked to in the clouds the other day. Sure would have been a great view from up there yesterday!
Ruth, hiking on the road near the village of Habovka.
Habovka is a pretty little village.
And so we lost a day in a new place, and our days are running out! Oh well, there was nothing we could do about it and we'll try again today. This time, we're taking the 8:45am bus to Liptovsky Mikulas, and then getting on the 9:55am train to Poprad. Should arrive in Poprad at 10:37am giving us lots of time to find somewhere to stay! Let's hope everything is on schedule for this today!
sure hope the bus shows up today!!!..hate when that happens, but at least your place to stay was still available!
ReplyDeleteIt did! We were happy it was still available too.
DeleteIt appears you have only run into nice people along your trip. Sounds a lot like Mexico, everyone willing to help. At least you haven't posted any problems.
ReplyDeleteYou're right on with the backpack. I like living out of suitcase. On week-long work trips I feel I have more freedom consolidating all my stuff into a carry-on and my laptop bag. Shows how creative one can be.
Keep having fun!
Yes, people have been great. No, we haven't had problems at all along the way, we do wish that we had a bit better grasp of the language though. It makes it really difficult to have a conversation with any of the locals the way that we would in Mexico.
DeletePerhaps you were ment to stay one more day! Looks like you had fun anyway!
ReplyDeleteThat's the way we were looking at it!
DeleteWe figured that you were having problems posting a comment again as we hadn't heard from you.
Too strange, I have been trying to comment for the last couple of weeks at different times and today it lets me..........
ReplyDeleteHave a fun day.
We used google translate when the family of our exchange student from Brazil visited us - very handy. It's great how you two adapt to all the different situations and are able to handle them without any problems. This truly has been an experience you'll treasure forever!
ReplyDeleteGoogle translate works fine if it translates the phrase correctly. It isn't always right, but it sure can help.
DeleteAs for adapting to problems, it always helps be easy going and just go with the flow rather than getting upset. Yes, we will definitely have great memories of this adventure.
Do you guys have an air card and that's how you manage to always be on line?
ReplyDeleteNo we don't have an air card, we have just been getting it from the places that we have stayed. The odd time we have had to go to the library because we couldn't get on or the connection wasn't good enough.
DeleteWaiting for a bus that never came....story of my life
ReplyDeleteHope the bus works out okay tomorrow! All part of the adventure. Have a safe trip:)
