We planned on getting on the road at 6:00am. We got up at 5:30am, and we did take a bit longer than we thought to get things in the car and it was probably 6:20am by the time we actually drove away from Galetta.
Had no problems at the border, in fact we were in and out of there in about 20 minutes.
Not many colors left on the trees.
It was a beautiful sunny day, and my $10 sunglasses that I had bought in May had fallen apart a few days ago. I had to get some new shades. So we stopped at the Walmart Supercenter just before Syracuse and picked up a few lunch items for the cooler. I went and looked for sunglasses but couldn't find the typical cheapo rack in the pharmacy department. Instead, I saw the "Optician" store on the other side of cash registers. I figured this was going to be a little more expensive, but I went over and had a look. They had a rack that had "Clearance" written on it, and the second pair of sunglasses I tried on, fit perfectly and I liked them. They were on for $9.00...great deal!
So I went to the cashier in the optician department and she asked if I wanted to wear them right away. I said yes, and she cut all the tags off and even sprayed them with lens cleaner and cleaned them up. Then, she shows me the tag that was on them and says "these are a great deal, they used to be $68.00"!! I love getting a deal!
My new shades...and the little blue car!
We sat and had a picnic lunch at the marina in Ithaca, N.Y.
At the Pennsylvania welcome center.
Do you remember a few weeks ago when I posted our route and I asked if any of our readers wanted to meet up? Well, long time readers Connie and Barry from Beavertown, Pennsylvania invited us for a visit! And are we ever glad they did. We love meeting the people who read about our adventures!
So we pulled in to their place at around 6:00pm. We had done 700 kms (434 miles!) and we were done with driving. Connie and Barrie came out and it was like getting together with old friends. The sun was going to go down soon and they knew we were only here for a short visit, so they wanted to give us a quick tour. They own some property in the area so we went for a tour!
Okay Kevin and Ruth, here's where you're sleeping for the night!
Just kidding! We went back to their place and got settled and Connie had a pot of chili and a nice salad ready for us. Their son Troy came over and said hello, and we had a good time chatting the evening away.
Have you ever seen this many teddy bears?
Connie, Barry, and son Troy.
So here it is, after 10:00pm already. We want to be in Pittsburgh by noon Tuesday, so we're not going to have much time with these guys. We'll just have to meet up with them again!
You always have a room at my house in NJ.Nice spot 5 min. from the delaware.Kayaks for yor use!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen, we will keep this in mind if we are in your area in the future. BTW, we love kayaking!
DeleteI thought you had a Ferrari.
ReplyDeleteThat's our other car!
DeleteNice deal on the sunglasses. I can't abide by paying the big bucks for some "designer" sunglasses. I like any kind that comes in a hard case though, as I've had too many mishaps over the years sitting on or otherwise messing up perfectly good glasses that didn't have that kind of protection.
ReplyDeleteNeither can we Bob, all you are doing is paying for a name in our opinion. Kevin will have to look for a hard case though!
DeleteSince I was raised in Pa. I remember when I was in service. The state started putting the slogan "you've got a friend in Pa." My younger brother Rick who id deceased now. said. "What if I don't want a friend Pa. I can't afford the taxes on the friends I have now.At that time Pa had the highest taxes in the east.PS we got your package last night in the post. Have a safe trip. Sam & Donna..
ReplyDeleteConnie and Barry agree with you on the taxes but they sure do have some nice land and a beautiful house in a gorgeous area.
DeleteDear Kevin & Ruth,
ReplyDeleteCome back! Come back! We miss you already! Thanks for making us your first stop on your Roadtrip. It was short BUT sweet and we really enjoyed the time and laughs we shared together. You are no longer strangers but a part of our family. We wish you many happy and fun filled days as you travel down the road. Take care and safe travels always!
((Hugs,))
Barry & Connie
PS Don't forget to visit us at our Delaware cottage someday - we'll go kayaking, crabbing, and fishing on the Atlantic!
We so wish we could have stayed longer Connie. We really enjoyed our time with you and look forward to seeing you again sometime in the future. You have been wonderful hosts and went way beyond what was necessary. We had such a fun time with you both. Don't worry we will definitely make plans to visit you in Delaware, it sounds like a perfect place to be. Take care, we will always have fond memories of our short visit with you.
DeleteGreat shades! What a deal.
