CenterHotel Thingholt

Our last night in Reykjavik was spent at CenterHotel Thingholt. The hotel is located on a side street in the central core and the building that houses it is a fairly drab looking concrete building. On the outside.

But once you open the front door, the dreary looking feeling vanishes instantly as you walk into an inspired contemporary lobby with water running down the walls and filled with comfy looking black leather sofas and chairs.

Hmm. So, if this is what the lobby looks like, we were immediately curious as to what we would find when we opened up the door to the room! We were assigned room 242 on the second floor, facing the street. We opened the door, and both of us said "Wow"!

From the entrance hall are steps leading to the sunken living room with white leather sofa, a flat screen TV and computer desk. Mood lighting from the ceiling, and ultra modern globe lighting on the floor.

Opposite that is the bedroom with it's own flat screen TV.

I found out later that some of the rooms have a huge bathtub built for two next to the bed. Very cool. Remember, hot water is pretty much in unlimited supply in Reykjavik, so why not have your own little private hot pool in your room?!

I borrowed a photo from their website so I could show you the big private tub beside your bed!

Our glass enclosed bathroom with sliding door and rainfall shower stall.

We were totally impressed with our room at CenterHotel Thingholt! Only downside we experienced was a bit of what sounded like construction noise and we couldn't figure out if it was coming from above us or below us. Turned out that it stopped before we went to bed, so it was a minor issue. Oh, and there is nothing to look at from the windows, but with the interior of the room being the way it was...who cares!

Made it downstairs the next morning for the full buffet breakfast that's included in the room rate.

Ruth, having breakfast.

Nice breakfast buffet to start your day.

Rooms at the CenterHotel Thingholt in Reykjavik, Iceland can be had for as little as €90 ($112) per night if you manage to book well in advance. But it's a popular hotel so you'll pay more than that if you hesitate or wait until the last minute. We totally enjoyed our stay at this very cool hotel!

  1. The hotels you stayed at were beautiful - everything looked so modern there. Do you think they even have antiques (we're collectors) in Iceland?

    1. Things are very modern in Iceland. Didn't see any antique stores but I am sure that they have some.

  2. That room is completely amazing. I kept picturing my pure white down comforter flopping over into the tub full of water. Ah well.

  3. OK - so of all the CenterHotels ... if you were to go back, which one would you pick for a multi-day stay?
