Free prescription eyeglasses?

Yep.

You might have noticed some new advertising here at Travel with Kevin and Ruth. We were contacted by the Firmoo.com online optical store, and they asked if we wanted to review and advertise their company. The only way to do that is to try out their product, so they agreed to send us each a new pair of prescription glasses. The neat thing is, every one of our readers gets a free pair of glasses too!

You know we tell things like they are, so right off the bat I have to mention the fine print. But it's pretty simple. You have to pay the shipping costs and this offer is only available to new Firmoo customers. You can even order sunglasses if you wish!

It was a pretty easy procedure to order online. Of course you should have a fairly recent prescription, and so we had gone to the optometrist while we were in England. Then, on the Firmoo.com website, you create an account. Then, go shopping and choose your glasses!

Regular prescription glasses are priced between $8.00 and $58.00 ($USD). You can choose any frame you want for your free first pair, except for the "designer" frames.

Because we are traveling, we had them ship our glasses to Sam and Donna's here in St. Louis so that they were waiting here for us when we arrived. But they ship almost anywhere in the world. For the U.S., it's only $6.95 for shipping unless your order is over $39, then shipping is free. Oh, and every order (including your free order) comes with a hard case, a cleaning cloth, and a tool kit with extra screws and pads.

You can get inexpensive, good quality eyeglasses, and help us out in the process. Yes, we make a small commission from every pair of glasses that you order and pay for. Just visit one of the Firmoo.com advertisements here on our blog, or go directly to their website via the following link...

So, how are our new glasses?

What do you think?

  1. No...what do YOU think? Can you see? I might just give them a try. They look nice but of course that's not the most important thing.

  4. Nice! Bummer, my optometrist has my prescription as I buy my glasses from him so I've never bothered to get it in writing.

    1. Your optometrist is obligated to give you your prescription in writing. You just have to ask for it.

  6. Looking good on you two! I actually have an eye appointment in two weeks so I'll take you up on that - thank you ahead of time for my new glasses. Oh, and is Kevin sporting whiskers???

    1. Try to get the Pupillary Distance (PD) while you are at your appointment. They may charge extra to give you that, if they do you can also get the PD yourself, they have websites that tell you how to do that.

Yes he was sporting whiskers, they are gone now though!

  7. Doug and I will check it out. Our prescriptions are both with progressive lenses. We will let you know if they can do that level of glasses "free". You both look like a couple of models!! Even better is that they contacted you!!

  9. I just had my eyes tested yesterday, good deal. I didn't order them from the eye place because it's not enough change to spend $540. That's just outrageous. This the right timing. Thanks.

  12. Great photos, you both look great, must be the new specs. So what about adjusting them, that is the big thing for most people? Things like one ear higher than the other.

    1. You can normally go to any local optician and they will make any necessary adjustments. They also include a little screwdriver and extra screws should you ever need them.

  13. I think you both look very knowledgeable in them.

  14. Hi Kevin & Ruth:
My first time writing but I've been following your blog since about the time you arrived in England (in the spring). I have appreciated many of the tidbits you have shared and of course REALLY enjoy reading about your travels. I just ordered some free glasses over the weekend through your web link to FirmOO.

I have looked back some over your blog looking for how or why you decided to travel to Mexico. Sounds as though it is your favorite place to be for most of the time. I did come across a part where you mentioned that Mexico is not like what the media seems to tell us. Do you both speak spanish pretty fluently? So, how is that you decided to go to Mexico?

Thanks for sharing all that you do in your blog!
    Barbara

    1. Thank you very much Barbara for taking the time to write a comment. We love to hear from our readers. Also thank you for ordering your glasses through our web link. We hope that you will be as happy with your glasses as we are with ours. Let us know what you think of them once you recieve them.

You have asked a very good question about our travelling to Mexico. Kevin will address that in a post sometime over the next few weeks when we have time to relax. I think we may have touched on it at sometime or another but never really went into it. No, we do not speak spanish fluently, in fact our first year we only had a few basic words but we have made an attempt to learn more each year we spend here and it has imporved to the point that we aren't afraid to ask questions and talk to locals in spanish. It isn't always grammatically correct but they get the point. Our problem is that we don't always understand the answer. Our spanish/english dictionary gets lots of use.
