And we will be getting an early start. We're planning on heading out of here at 6:00am Monday morning. The little blue car is ready to go, all cleaned up and all the little things fixed that I wanted to get done. All we need is to get some new tires somewhere in the U.S. along the way.
Here's our approximate route. We've done this drive quite a few times in the motorhome, and we try and do it slightly different each time. But with the motorhome, we try and avoid the cities, sticking mainly to the secondary roads. So we've never been into many of the cities. This time, with the little blue car, we're doing city tours and a lot of Interstate highway driving.
3,800 kms (2,350 miles) to the Mexico border.
The plan is to reach the border around Nov 1, give or take a day or two either way.
Went to the bank yesterday and got spare debit cards for each one of us. We've heard stories of some Mexican ATM machines eating them for lunch, and although it's never happened to us we wanted to be a little more prepared. Originally, the teller said they couldn't do it, citing "fraud" concerns, but I pressed the issue. Then, she said she didn't think the system would allow her to do it. She went and checked with someone else, and then tried it and it worked. She said she learned something new! So now we don't have to worry as much about not being able to get cash in Mexico.
So, we're excited to get on a road trip! We're going to be doing city tours of Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Oklahoma City, three cities we have never visited before.
For today, we're visiting family and friends in Ottawa, then getting a good night's sleep for a long drive tomorrow.
Travel safe and enjoy the journey as you always do.
ReplyDeleteHave truely enjoyed following your journey's. Angela
ReplyDeleteThat's a gorgeous header photo. A 6am departure is something I can only dream about. As 10 days to get from Canada to Mexico. Well actually I wouldn't even want to dream about it. Or the cities either for that matter. HA! But ya'll have a good time and be safe!
ReplyDeleteHave to admit 10 days is pretty fast for us. We generally would take more time but we are eager to get back to Sherman. As for cities, we enjoy visiting cities for a short time but are always happy to get back into the country.
DeletePretty sure I need to get a job at a bank. It would seem very little skill is involved. I can cite multiple examples of "training" the staff at the bank down the street from our house on how to transfer funds to a US bank. Got so I just kept a few forms at home and filled them out myself. Clever bunch.
ReplyDeleteThat's a long drive. Are you doing any couch surfing along the way? We've been to Oklahoma City. I found the memorial to the bombing there to be well done and very moving. We haven't visited the two other cities so am looking forward to visiting with you.
ReplyDeleteYes, we're staying with a couchsurfing host in Cincinnati! And probably in Oklahoma City as well, but haven't confirmed anything yet.
DeleteGood idea about the ATM cards. I'll give that a try. It will be quite different travelling without the RV.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly will be different with a car but this way we can go to some of the places that we would have avoided with the motorhome.
DeleteIf you go through southern Indiana at a time you need to stop, we might be able to amble down for a coffee/tea break. The ATM card is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteNot sure where you are Nan in Indiana. We will be heading from Cincinnati, Ohio to St. Louis, Missouri on Saturday and we will be taking the most direct route. If you think you might be close just email us and let us know and maybe we could set something up.
DeleteWe are SO excited - can't wait for this road trip to start! ;)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome to stay at the house.

ReplyDeleteWe hope that our paths will cross again too. We use TD Canada Trust and the extra debit card is a "cash only" debit card.
