Some nice views of Monterrey

Juan was working yesterday, but Chris took us up to the mountains surrounding Monterrey. There's a national park called Chipinque Parque Ecologico and Chris had been there many years ago and wanted to see what it was like now.

We had to go through part of the city itself.

Lots of new highrises.

Monterrey is a modern growing city.

We're heading for these mountains!

Wasn't long, and we had some nice views!

Ruth, admiring the view of the city of Monterrey.

The higher we got, the more you could see the smog. Chris says it only shows up on certain days depending on the weather.

We did a short hike. It was pretty hot at 30C (86F) and we had jeans on so it was a bit uncomfortable. But, we got some exercise again, so that was good. Oh, and we saw some neat animals!

What's this in the distance??

Turns out it's called a Coati. There was a whole family of them and this one crossed the boardwalk in front of us!

This squirrel was a freindly guy!

Chipinque Eco Park is well worth a visit if you're in the Monterrey area. It's nice and clean, and even on a Monday there were quite a few people hiking and biking and out getting some exercise. I expect it's really busy on the weekends!

We've had a lot of laughs and good discussion with Chris and Juan. Thanks for having us guys! Today, we're off to the city of Zacatecas. It's about a 500 km (300 mile) drive and the first part is on a twisty road through the mountains. This is one of the benefits of having the car with us because it's a road we wouldn't have taken the motorhome on. Looking forward to some great pictures!

  1. Well, at least that particular squirrel is in Mexico, and not chewing on our house. Not a big fan of those little guys.

    1. He looked like he wanted to jump onto my shoulder and I wasn't about to let that happen. He wasn't the least bit afraid of us and the coati didn't seem bothered by us either.
