So, Barb and Sal are scheduled to arrive back on Thursday or Friday this week. We'll play it by ear, but we've been invited to visit San Miguel de Allende by a couchsurfer who lives there and they look like really interesting people to visit with so we're thinking of taking them up on their offer. So maybe towards the end of next week we'll take off for a few days and go to San Miguel. We've been there before, but now that we have the little blue car with us, there are a few things in the outlying areas we'd like to see and do.
Then, we'll come back to here to spend Christmas and New Years Eve.
But shortly after January 1st, we're heading further south.
Here's the plan...
(A) Hacienda Contreras. (B) Morelia. (C) Valle de Bravo. (D) Acapulco. (E) Puerto Escondido (F) Guatemala.
We're going to leave Sherman at (A). The savings in gas will be worth it, and we have places to stay all along our route. Won't be quite as convenient not having Sherman with us, but we have a little tent and we're going to do some beach camping!
We've been around the city of (B) Morelia, but never into the city itself. So we want to visit Morelia for a couple of days. There are quite a few couchsurfers listed there so we should have no problem staying with some friends who we haven't met yet!
Then, we're looking forward to seeing all of our friends at (C) Valle de Bravo. We'll probably spend a couple of weeks there, and again we're looking forward to doing a couple of things in the area that will be more convenient with a car.
After that, it will be time for some beach! Looking forward to seeing John at (D) Acapulco Trailer Park for a little bit. We'll be roughing it in a tent while we're there!
And then in between (D) and (E), there's a little beach spot we know of where we'll stop for a couple of nights before heading to (E) Puerto Escondido where we'll spend another couple of weeks.
From there, we're going to play it by ear. If we feel like it, we're going to head for (F) Guatemala! If not, we'll spend a bit more time in Puerto Escondido (it's pretty easy to relax there, and we have friends to visit!) and then head to the city of Oaxaca which is another place in Mexico that we've never been to.
And from there, back to Hacienda Contreras. By then, it should be about the middle of March! So we're going on a two and a half month long road trip! Even though it's still a month before we leave, just writing it all down has us excited about it!
A big ugly spider I saw yesterday. I took this just for you, Lindsey!
Good luck with that whole tent program. My wife tried it many, many years ago. She was a good sport. That was that.
ReplyDeleteI'd still do it, 'cept I have trouble getting up off the ground in the morning.
We shouldn't have a problem with it, as this is the way we used to do our travelling, especially with the children. We slept in the tent a year ago June in Nova Scotia, the first night was fine the second night poured with rain, not so much fun. Shouldn't have a problem with the rain this time around.
DeleteI agree with Bob, to old and spoiled for that, I don't believe Donna would have any part of a tent.Looks like you have the beginnings of a plan. Be safe out there...
ReplyDeleteSounds like it's going to be an interesting winter's reading. Have a great trip!
ReplyDeleteWe are looking forward our the adventures ahead.
DeleteNever knew Couch Surfing was an actual "cottage industry" until today! When you said "couchsurfer" twice I knew I had to look it up.
ReplyDeleteWe have used it a lot over the past year. It's a great way to meet people in the area that you want to visit. You get a lot more inside information to the area this way as well as a better understanding of culture and way of life.
DeleteOne great thing about tent camping in Mexico is that it's usually quite warm where ever you are. I've camped all over the planet and freezing is the worst part.
ReplyDeleteYep, we have been there an done it in cold weather, not so much fun. We should have beautiful weather for it this winter though.
DeleteSounds like a good plan plus you will see different things than being in the RV.
ReplyDeleteThere are a number of things that we want to see that I know the car will come in handy. They will be some hard to get to places with the motorhome so now will be the ideal time.
DeleteSounds like a GREAT trip. We are looking forward to following along via your blog. You were right - too much to see in Mexico - we won't make it to Central America this year.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Oaxaca - I was there back in 1994 and look forward to visiting again - maybe next year.
Yep, there is definitely lots to see! This is our fifth winter in Mexico and we are still going to be seeing new sights. Definitely looking forward to Oaxaca, we have said we have wanted to visit it for the past 3 years and still haven't made it to the city.
DeleteMy planned route looks a lot like yours, from Acapulco onwards.
ReplyDeleteWho knows, maybe will will meet down the road.
DeleteOne pretty view in your header pic today! Can't wait to follow along on your next planned trip - looks like fun! Sorry we didn't send brake pads with you - never thought of it - glad you found what you needed. I'm getting ready to order my glasses - so TKS!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are looking forward to our trip as well! No worries about the brake pads Connie, you have done enough for us already and we didn't have problems finding them and at a great price to boot! Let us know how the glasses work out.
DeleteI like that picture, too. I've got a hat just like that one!
