Day trip to Playa Roca Blanca

Our friend Alfredo only has Sunday as a day off work, so we took advantage of that by making a day trip out to Playa Roca Blanca. This is a beach about 40 kms (25 miles) north (west?) of Puerto Escondido. We've driven by the entrance to this beach several times with the motorhome and always wondered what it was like.

But first, we had to have some breakfast! Alfredo cooked us all up some eggs...

Ruth, watching the chef at work!

Tortillas, eggs, beans, cheese.

Then we headed off to the beach. About a 45 minute drive because we are on the far south side of Puerto Escondido so we have to drive all the way through town as well. made it to the turn off, and then about another 2 kms to the beach itself. We made it there about 11:30am and it wasn't busy...yet. A guy directed us to parking, where it was 20 pesos ($1.60) to park...we were there early enough that we got a spot in the shade.

The beach is lined with small restaurants. each one of them tries to get you into their restaurant. I asked one guy if he had hammocks, and he said yes so we let him lead us to his place on the far side of the beach.

Here's where we set up.

Not a bad view from my hammock!

Getting busier now.

Little Gael having a snooze in the hammock.

Kevin having a snooze!

Playa Roca Blanca.

You can get any small motorhome down to this beach. We asked about staying overnight and the guys said no problem. They said no problem with regards to security too, but there's also a small hotel that has a parking area good enough that I'm sure they would take 100 pesos a night to use their gated lot.

Back to La Barra where we went to Alfredo's mother Sylvia's for dinner. Then sat out and got our legs eaten alive by mosquitoes and sand fleas. Why they were so much worse last night, we're not sure. But we're not doing it again! Looking for somewhere else to stay tonight. This living out of a tent is okay, but the more we do it, the more we miss Sherman.

    1. Seriously? That's like watching a season of the Brady Bunch and then asking who Alice is! Of course Sherman is the name of our motorhome!

    1. Yep, that is exactly why it got it's name. The big rock island is white from all the birds doing what birds do naturally!

  6. A lovely looking beach. We're having problems at the moment with mosquitoes. Been down the road and had a swim in the sea today. The water was lovely and warm. Enjoy the rest of your time enjoying the Mexico beaches.

    1. Sounds like you are in a perfect spot too, other than the mosquitoes. They are Kevin's pet peeve.

    1. Well, we have to admit that is the first time that we have heard that. We really don't think that that is the reason, we just think there are lots of bugs all of the time, we have just always had Sherman to sit in at night so never really noticed how bad they were in the evenings before.
