Playa Ventura to Puerto Escondido

Yesterday's post was late so you might want to go back and check it first if you missed it.

So we took off from Playa Ventura at a few minutes before 9:00am. We have done this drive several times with the motorhome, and it's been about a six hour drive. To do 275 kms (171 miles). Slow going, lots of little towns and topes.

After an hour's drive, we had done 55 kms (34 miles).

Going through Pinotepa Nacional.

Always something to slow you down.

Not that we were in a rush. But after six hours of this, it does get a little monotonous!

We pulled in to Puerto Escondido just after 1:30pm. Turns out that it's not much faster in the little blue car than it was in the motorhome! First, we stopped at Uncle Eugenio's beach club to see if Alfredo was working. Turns out that Alfredo has a new job working at the local milk producer. Good for him! So then we drove over to Sylvia and Hermalindo's place because we knew that Alfredo and Mary had moved, and Sylvia (Alfredo's mother) would know where to!

Sure enough, everybody was happy to see us, and we were happy to see them. Especially little Nataly, now four and a half years old...she sure is a cutie and gave us both a big hug. And of course baby brother Gael, now about nine months old.

We went downtown and did some grocery shopping. then came back to the house and set up the tent in the yard. Mary and Alfredo moved to this house a few months ago. It's a two bedroom, but Mary's mother and sister are living here too, so we decided to live in the tent while we're here. This is a fairly typical rural style house. Very basic, and they're just a young couple. Alfredo makes about 1500 pesos ($120) a week, but keep in mind that their house rent here is only 1,200 pesos ($96) per month. Want to live cheap in Mexico? If you want to live like the locals, it can be done. You don't need very much. I'll take some pictures over the next few days.

Nataly sure liked out tent!

Ruth and the ladies having a game of "la loteria".

No plans for today. I think we'll start out by going for a walk down to the beach this morning.

  2. I'm so far behind on blogs because of my lousy internet. I'll have to catch up when I get back to AJ. That Nataly is definitely a cutie.

  4. And if his work is formalized, paying taxes, etc, he can apply for a federal home loan with a payment of 96 dollars a month with tile floors, plumbing, running water, electricity, etc.

    You gotta love Mexico!

    1. He's only been working there for just over a month so he is going to ask. He thinks he might be. Kevin is going to email you about more information on this so that we can pass it on to Alfredo.
