Time flies when you're having fun!

Yesterday, we got the little blue car unpacked and Sherman sorted out for our three week stay here. I rinsed the roof off and cleaned the solar panels. We went to a one hour Spanish lesson that Barb gives to any of the campers who want to attend. Ruth made a nice roast chicken dinner. And the day just disappeared.

Oh, and of course we did our 5 km (3 mile) morning power walk.

I never told you about my deal of the day purchase when we went grocery shopping the other day.

Grand Grizzly Canadian Whisky

Imported from Canada. You'd figure it would be kinda pricey, no? Well, it would be in Canada. It would cost at least $30 in Canada. Of course most of that is taxes, but to give you an idea of just how much of it is taxes, I bought this bottle for 99 pesos ($8.32). It has a smokey flavor, and it would go well in a coffee. Maybe I'll try it that way this evening!

Mexico is getting more expensive for us though. Actually, the Canadian dollar has been dropping like a rock versus most other currencies for the last while and is now at a 12 month low versus the peso...

Canadian dollar versus Mexican peso.

When we got here in November, we could take 5,000 pesos out of the ATM and it would cost about $380. That same 5,000 pesos now costs about $420.

Before we knew it, it was time for happy hour!

Good crew of campers at happy hour.

Ruth made us a delicious roast chicken dinner with all the fixings. She also baked a loaf of gluten free bread. So nice to have our oven back!

Finished the evening off with a nice campfire.

  3. Nice to see you two back home in Sherman, which looks very comfy to us! We've been staying at Bruno's Marina below the bridge in Rio Dulce, Guatemala for the last few nights. They call the marina restaurant the Jake Brake Saloon after the big rig braking method used on the bridge above us. Noisy and not the best place to sleep but the waterfront is nice.

    1. Nope, they have lots of good tequila and mezcal for that.

We are planning our trip back to Canada and will be going through lots of uncharted territory for us. We will be doing a post on what's coming up next in the very near future.

  5. Looks like a wonderful place to spend some time. Are you sure that whiskey is the real stuff? Maybe some enterprising Mexicans rebottled some dark tequila. :)

    1. We love it here, it's now become our second home.

The whiskey is definitely whiskey, just a blended one. Even if it was rebottled dark tequila it would still be a great price!

  6. Great looking meal, Ruth. That doesn't look like Canadian whiskey in those wine glasses.

  7. How about some Patron? Whiskey is not my fav, but it is Johns. What's next on your agenda?

    1. Never tried Patrón but seeing that it is a premium tequila it is probably out of our price range.

As I mentioned above in reply to Karen and Steve's comment, we will be headed up through the United States to Canada and will be going through areas that we have never been before. Kevin will do a post on our trip north shortly.

  8. Dinner in Sherman - fantastic. And besides that the chicken looks wonderful. Maybe we'll have roast chicken for dinner tonight. Thanks for the idea. Taxes?? That's more like highway robbery.

    1. The chicken was delicious. I am really enjoying being able to have a oven again, that was one thing that I really missed over the last 2 1/2 months.

  9. Sorry to hear about the drop in your dollar but you sure seem to be able to come up with the bargains to stretch your money. I can just feel in your words your happiness at being back in Sherman. Enjoy!!

    1. Yes, we are able to do a pretty good job on making the money go far. Having said that it is still pretty inexpensive here, we are going to have "sticker shock" when we head home this spring. I think we will have a hard time trying to stretch our dollar there but we are always up for a challenge.

    1. We are happy to be back, Barb. We had a great time on our 2 1/2 month adventure but we were happy to get back to Sherman and our second "home" here a Hacienda Contreras. This is a great place for us to just sit back and relax.
