Well, today is finally the day!

Only 183 kms (114 miles) to go and we will be at our home for the next five months. So we're heading out of here around 9:00am and we'll be at Sturgeon Lake Regional Park before noon. Our long drive will be over!

We're pretty excited!

And to make it even better, it seems that spring has finally sprung! They're calling for a high of 19C (66F) today. It'll probably be a little cooler two hours north of here, but still...it's heading in the right direction.

Yesterday, Jean took us for a good hike along the edge of the river near downtown. It was a nice day, and although our feet got a bit wet, we enjoyed the hike. We did 7.7 kms (4.8 miles), at a decent pace. We were due for some exercise.

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Still quite a bit of snow in the bushes.

But exposed areas were more muddy and sloppy.

This railway bridge now has a walking platform alongside it.

Walking across the railway bridge.

The view back at the city from the railway bridge.

The ice is breaking up.

Oh, after a few emails and phone calls with Olympus customer support, they have agreed to send us a new camera! We do have to pay the shipping charges to send the old camera back to them, but as soon as I call them and give them the tracking number from UPS, they will send out the new camera! Good news! So we will be without our camera for much of next week. That sucks, but I'm sure we'll make it through it.

Jean, Ruth, and Mark. We ended off the evening with a rousing game of Mexican Train.

And so we're off! Next post coming to you from Sturgeon Lake Regional Park!

  2. Me too. Can't wait to see the park. I'm looking it up on my map so I'll have a good idea where you are. Glad Olympus is picking up the tab and replacing your camera. ROUSING game of Mexican Train?? Really??

    1. We are going to be sending the camera off of Monday so we'll let everyone know how well the process goes.

Ok, "rousing" may not be the right word but we sure had some good laughs!

  4. What on earth are you going to do up there in all the snow? Does the park open before May long?
    Hope you have snowshoes. Enjoy.

    1. From what we understand the park opens May 1st. I don't think they will be queuing up for a little while though. There is a lot of clean up that will need to be done. This is the worst spring that they have ever had so this really isn't a normal start to the camping season.

  5. That area is looking mighty cold! That's a Canadian spring? ;c)

  6. It's pretty cool that when the railroad abandoned one of the tracks on that bridge, someone got the great idea of turning it into a Rail Trail---and then made it happen! Are bikes allowed on it?

    1. The bridge was built in 1908 and there was only ever one track. The pedestrain walkway was actually built the following year 1909. It has been revenovated over the years but essentially hasn't changed since it was built. As for bikes, probably but you would have to carry the bike up LOTS of steps and more than likely walk it across the bridge.

    2. Wow, never would have guessed the walkway was over a century old! Thanks for the info!
