Our first campers have arrived!

And in the last 24 hours, the ice on the lake has disappeared. It's amazing because it pretty much disappeared overnight. Thursday night it was there, and Friday morning there were only a few big sheets floating around. Later yesterday, it had gone!

Here's a little before and after...

Thursday morning.

Friday morning.

Saturday morning. No more ice!

Our first campers arrived yesterday evening. These people have a seasonal site with a fifth wheel and although it's a nice site, it's a little tight to get into so they wanted to get here before anybody else so they could maneuver their rig into it's spot. I went down and introduced myself and brought them some free firewood! (One bundle of wood per day is included with your camping fees).

They had a wind storm last year that blew quite a few trees over. They've mostly been cleaned up, but there are still some unsightly stumps around. I tackled one of them on Thursday with a shovel and chainsaw!

Ready for business!

I got it removed, filled the hole, and leveled out the ground with my little tractor. There is no shortage of the right tools to do the job!

But some stuff required a little more heavy duty machinery. There was a plugged culvert that caused a lot of runoff damage, so they brought in a horizontal drilling rig to clear it out!

That'll do the trick. And it did!

I spent a couple of hours yesterday afternoon leveling out the road and parking lot. Much better now!

While I was doing that, Ruth got the day use picnic area cleaned up and ready to go.

I expect there will be quite a bit of activity around here today and tomorrow. I know we have one more seasonal camper showing up today, and another one tomorrow. The place will soon start to look like a campground when it has some campers in it!

  1. You are really getting the place spiffed up. I would think next week-end would be your big opening season time isn't it? Like Memorial Day is for us.

  3. Ha! I'll bet by the end of the season you'll be campered out. Great that they have all the tools you really need to do your jobs. Nothing worse than having to try to 'figure something out' when what you need is a big chainsaw or ????

Love your lake pictures. Gorgeous place that's for sure.

  6. There's no way three feet of ice could melt in such short time. I think somebody stole it! Call the Mounties to see if any new igloos cropped up recently.

    1. Yep, once the spring cleanup is done, I think we will still be busy just a different kind of busy. Maybe a more relaxing kind of busy.

  9. Everything is coming together for you. My sister lives on Lake Scugog in Ontario and in the spring she says the lake turns over, colder ice sinks and the warmer water comes to the top.
Pretty soon you will have lotsa company there.
