This morning, it was 7:40am!! Unbelievable!
This is the Canada Day long weekend up here in the great white north. Not so white at this time of year of course, in fact it's been kind of grey the last few weeks. Lots of rain in the month of June, but so far the weather forecast for the long weekend is looking pretty good.
We had a few campers arrive yesterday in advance of the crowds, but we will be sold out by tonight. It's going to be pretty much non stop for us the next three days. But we're ready. Managed to get the landscaping looking pretty good (grass cutting, weed eating, trimming etc) despite trying to do it in between rain storms. The wood shed is full and ready for the campers. We're set.
Oh, speaking of the wood shed and the rain...
Almost stuck!
I was backing the truck up in the mud in front of the woodshed when the front end dropped like a rock. It was almost like quicksand! Yes, it's a 4x4, and yes, I almost couldn't get out! But I did...I just have to be very careful in that spot from now on! There's a real soft spot because there's some kind of underground stream running in that area, and the water level on the lake keeps coming up which is just on the other side of the wood shed. I'll show you more of that tomorrow maybe!
The nice folks in Namibia asked for our travel dates yesterday. Looks like we'll be leaving New York City on November 6th, and returning March 6th. So, 4 months in Africa. We have to fly back to New York, so we'll somehow have to make our way from New York to Mexico...but that's a long way off so we'll figure something out.

Wow that truck situation looks dire. Glad you were able to get it out. Speaks well for F-150. We're pretty sick to death of rain here in New England too. Had to cancel a really nice kayak paddle on a sweet river because every time we started out, it would start raining again. ENOUGH ALREADY! Hope it doesn't come your way. Interesting that Canada Day and US July 4th are so close together.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't too bad, we didn't have to get the tractor to pull it out or anything. The ground was just so soft and water logged it was like quicksand. Hopefully things will start to dry up now. Sunshine is in the forecast.
DeleteWe slept in this morning also - must be something in the air. Jim is almost always up about 5:30 to 5:45 when he's going fishing. Today it was 6:30. Glad you didn't have to be pulled out.
ReplyDeleteWe don't mind getting up at 6:30am but when you get up at 7:30am it tends to throw our day off a bit. the extra sleep was nice though. Hope Jim caught something when he went fishing.
DeleteIt's been super rainy here as well. We have a few sites that are not rentable because they are pretty much under water. Kevin has been having a tough time getting the mowing done between storms. And, there are some areas that are just too wet to cut. Last year we had a drought and he didn't mow for 5 weeks. This year it won't stop raining. Go figure. The forecast is calling for three straight days without rain. Yahoo!!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't lost the use of any sites yet but a few are a bit on the muddy side or just soggy. We have managed for the most part to keep up with the mowing but the other day Kevin tried to mow the top entrance area with the ride on mower and got stuck so that was put off for a couple more days. Even now there is still some muddy sections. Should get better, lots of sunshine in the forecast. Hope you will get this weather too!

Could you send some of the rain here? 110 degrees here today and the a.c. in motorhome is barely able to keep up.

ReplyDeleteWe could probably use a load of gravel in a few spots. It was all nice a dry just over two weeks ago. It will dry up again, soon I hope!

DeleteTruck situation seem very dangerous but is very good news you are all right. As you mention a oak tree, I want to talk about it. When I saw it in your blog, I find it on goggle and surprised to see such trees. How much spread around. My friend also give me information about Johns Island. Now I wish to see this place and tree in close.

DeleteI hope that you get to see this tree one day, it is so totally amazing. We will have to check out Johns Island though, not sure that I have heard of it.
