Doing the happy dance!

We got the word yesterday. Our last day of work for the season will be next Sunday the 15th.

Monday the 16th we'll get the little blue car packed up, and early morning of Tuesday the 17th we're outta here!!!

And so I spent last night doing some planning for our big road trip. We're going to do approximately 3,300 kms (2,046 miles) from Sturgeon Lake, Saskatchewan to Ottawa, Ontario. We're going to be doing the American route going through North Dakota, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

Cheaper fuel, and some reasonably priced beer and wine!

Plus, we get to meet lots of new friends, and even some old friends. We are totally excited!!

Here's our route...

We've got the driving broken into 8 days. And they're fairly even days, averaging 400 kms (248 miles) per day or so. Perfect for being able to stop along the way and take some photos and do some hiking.

And, we're looking forward to meeting some of our readers, and some new couchsurfing hosts. Not all of this is written in stone yet, but we're trying to arrange a couchsurfing host for our first night in (B) Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Then, we're looking forward to meeting some of our blog readers in (C) Killarney, Manitoba who have invited us for a visit. Then couchsurfing again in (D) Grand Forks, North Dakota. Next is (E) Duluth, Minnesota where we're hoping to be meeting more of our readers.

After that, couchsurfing in (F) Marquette, Michigan followed by a little detour to visit with fellow Mexico RV'ers Bill and Bonnie in (G) Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Really looking forward to seeing them. We've been close to each other in our travels over the last couple of years, but never close enough to get together. This time, we're making sure we can have a few laughs...plus, they know how to play the Euchre card game!!!

Followed by (H) Elliot Lake, Ontario. This is a place we've wanted to visit for a long time, and we got an invite from another blog reading traveler to stop in and visit for a night. The timing was going to be dependent on us getting out of here sooner than later, so we're glad to be able to stop in.

If any other readers are along our route, feel free to send us a note and maybe we can get together. We love meeting the people who follow our travels!

The little blue car is raring to go!

  1. That's basically the shortest route, and the cheapest too.
Once upon a time, when my parents and I went up to Flin Flon, we went through Sault St. Marie, Minnesota, ND and then straight up past Winterpeg. Can't say I'd exactly recommend Flin Flon as a travel destination though. It's kind of "out there".

    1. Two of the three reasons we are going that way, the third would be that we think it is a prettier drive. Never heard of Flin Flon before so I had to look it up and found that it falls right on the border of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, now I know something new.

    1. Yep, we would have been quite happy with Sept. 20th, now it is even better and no need to rush our road trip in order to get back to Ottawa before Oct. 4th.

  3. Great news and sounds like a fun trip. Too bad we're too far south for a visit.

    1. It is a shame that you are too far south, we would have loved to have stopped in for a visit. There is always next year, you never know.

  8. Awesome, travelling! Just what you love to do! I can't wait to read about it all.
So when you camp host, do they pay you like a regular paycheque or do they pay you at the end? Do you get a bonus, and when do you know if they want you back? (right away?)
Just wondering if you thought about going back next year after your adventures.
Have a great last week in saskatchewan!

    1. We aren't camp hosting or work camping, Kevin explains this in the next post as a few people have been asking questions on this subject. Hope it answers some of your questions.
