It's over!

Well, it's not quite over, but certainly the worst is over.

Our busy time here at the campground is the weekend, and long weekends are the busiest. Plus of course, they last three nights instead of two! But we survived this weekend just fine...and it was the last LONG weekend of the season.

And so, while everyone else is heading back to work and back to school...we get a well deserved break! We haven't had a day off since June 11th, and even that wasn't a true day off. So we're due for a break, and I expect this will be a coasting kind of a week. Might even take the canoe out on the lake after we post this blog.

We weren't sold out this weekend. We had six or seven empty sites in the lower campground which holds a total of 32, and the majority of the upper overflow campground was empty...I think there were five units up there and it holds a total of 17 or so.

And we had two separate groups of young people, but they were pretty good. I had to go talk to both of them after 11:00pm to turn their music off, and one of them again at midnight the first night, but they were pretty good the next two nights. Their campsites were a disaster with empty drink containers etc strewn around...but they cleaned them up nicely before they left yesterday, so it's all good. Plus, one of them left us all of their empties, so that's a few dollars in our pockets.

It had rained Friday evening, so that put a damper on things a little bit, but the rest of the weekend was beautiful. Today, the sunshine continues with a high of 23C (73F) but tomorrow and Thursday are calling for record highs of 30C (86F). That's certainly pretty warm for this time of year.

Came across this ugly dude on the side of our cabin!

Looking forward to this afternoon when friends Doug and Nancy show up...our second visitors of the season! They're coming at the perfect time...we've only got three other campers on site, the weather is beautiful..and there are no bugs! The mosquitoes, black flies, and horse flies have all retired for the season.

  3. You've done it! What a great job and you certainly do deserve a rest - and some time to count your money!!!! You've most likely been the best managers they've ever had. When will they offer and / or you have to decide about doing it again next year?

    1. It sure was nice yesterday to do things leisurely. Well we think we did a good job here and we think that we saved them money because for the most part it was just the two of us doing the majority of the work. Not sure when they will offer or we if will except but chances are that we will return again next year.

  4. Congrats on getting through such a busy time! And with humour!

Love the fact those campers left their empties-and you can claim back the deposit!

Enjoy your day off. Canoeing on the lake sounds blissful to me! And have a wonderful time with your friends. You deserve it!

    1. I think you need humour for any job, it makes it easier! :)

Yep, we love the fact that we get left lots of empties, that will be some of our spending money in Africa.

      We will thank you Sft.

  6. It must be heavenly with no 'skeeters. They're chewing me up pretty bad here in South Carolina. I've never been so popular in my life! :c(

    1. Yep, that 5 months of hard work are worth it when you can enjoy 7 months down south. Can't wait to get on the road now and enjoy all our new adventures.
