Beach Palace Resort (day 2)

The day started out okay, but around the noon hour the clouds moved in. And then the skies opened up and it poured with rain for a couple of hours here in Cancun. But we still had a good day!

We didn't make it down for breakfast until after 9:00am. You can have coffee in your room, which we did. And here at Cancun's Beach Palace Resort you can also order full room service if you wish. At no extra cost! We haven't done that yet, but for those who like that sort of thing it's there for your use.

Room service breakfast menu.

You simply make your choices and hang it on your door before you go to bed. Breakfast will be delivered at the time you want it.

We chose the breakfast buffet though. Lots of fresh choices. I don't see how they could make it any better!

Kevin's breakfast, with a big glass of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice.

Lots of people having a fairly late breakfast at 9:30am.

After breakfast, we went for a walk along the busy street out front. Mostly tourist shops, and all kinds of people talking to you in English and price signs in U.S. dollars. We were looking for a TelCel shop where we could buy a SIM card for our internet stick. We do have one, but it's been almost a year since we've used it and I think it's expired because I can't access the account online.

We had to ask at the tourist info office, and they told us there was an actual TelCel store about 10 minutes walk. We found it, but it was closed yesterday due to some special occasion. No worries, we'll go back there this morning. We need to have the internet stick working for when we arrive at Hacienda Contreras and our motorhome tomorrow. We've been missing our motorhome!

Our Beach Palace Resort

Ruth, watching the fish in the lobby aquariums.

We decided to head up to the rooftop swimming pool and relax and read our books. We didn't get very far though, because that was about the time it started to rain. We moved indoors to a rest area by the rooftop elevators and another couple sat down beside us doing the same thing to wait out the rain.

We ended up talking to them for an hour or so. Older couple in their seventies from southern Indiana. Ended up telling each other about our respective families etcetera. Nice way to pass the time, and we'll probably never see them again. They were only visiting on a day pass, so they weren't even staying at the Beach Palace. We also have the option of visiting the other Palace Resorts in the area, but we're not here long enough to make it worth our while.

The snack menu at the rooftop bar.

We ended up back at the buffet for lunch. It was still pouring with rain. We went back up to our room and I had a nap! When I woke up, the rain had stopped and the clouds were trying to move on.

Taken from our 11th floor balcony at 5:30pm.

We stayed in the room until dinner time. We had been eating late all day, with a fairly late breakfast and a mid afternoon lunch, so we didn't want dinner too early. We went to the full service steakhouse restaurant for dinner. I was in the mood for steak! It was full, so we could either wait, or use the tables outside. We chose outside and fortunately the wind had died down and it was actually quite pleasant with hardly anybody around.

Ready for dinner!

Salad

Appetizer of provolone cheese and prosciutto.

Rib eye steak, grilled veggies, and a baked potato.

We were stuffed. Unfortunately Ruth thought her steak was a little tough, although mine was fine. Her's must have been from a different cow!

Next up was the entertainment. They have a guy named Ryan Oakes who does illusions and magic stuff. He's doing a three month stint in the palace resorts and Tuesday night was his turn at the Beach Palace.

Ryan Oakes show.

He was really good, and considering the admission is part of your all inclusive it was pretty good entertainment! Funny, and lots of audience participation.

Today is our last day here. Our flight leaves just after midnight tonight and tomorrow we get to see our friends in Valle de Juarez where we will be reunited with our motorhome Sherman!

  1. Sherman is going to be so happy. However he might be jealous of the wonderful accommodations you've had lately.

    1. Sherman has no need to be jealous, we loved our time at the Beach Palace but we love our time in Sherman too!

    1. Sherman is a palace to us! He has everything we need! :-)

Thanks for everything Paula, we enjoyed our short visit with you guys and loved having the chili for supper. It was so nice to come "home" to that as well as seeing all you guys at Hacienda Contreras even if it was only for a short time.

  5. Oh man, I'd be all over that Breakfast Delivered to The Room program. I don't necessarily *mind* hotel/resort buffet style breakfast, but if I could have the same thing brought to the room?? Noooo problem.
I'm sure you'll be happy to back in your own bed in Sherman, but that resort doesn't look too shabby.

    1. Hmmm, maybe we should have tried it. We've never had Room Service before!

You are right Bob, we are looking forward to being back in Sherman but the resort has been so totally relaxed, something that we certainly needed right about then.

  6. It was yet another LWE here in Mexico and the banks and most stores were closed in honor of Benito Juarez.

  7. I think you will spend some time cleaning sherman after being gone that long. He will surely need a bath!!!

    1. The inside of Sherman was actually very good, just a little bit of dust that a quick wipe down will fix. The outside of him was filthy, but nothing that soap, water and a bit of scrubbing couldn't fix, otherwise he was in great shape.

  8. Wow, what a good looking rib eye! I bet it was good too! Have fun in Valle tomorrow and I wish we were there to hear all about it. Big hugs to everyone who is still there and we say hello to all. Have a blast.

    1. Kevin said his steak was great, mine tasted really good but I found it to be a little chewy.

Sorry that we won't get to see you at Hacienda Contreras with the rest of the gang, we'll miss both you and Juan. Hopefully we will get to see you this summer or fall.
