There's a big bicycle race happening here this weekend and the route is very scenic. Yesterday, we took the car for a drive and followed much of the route that the cyclists will be doing.
Here's where we drove yesterday...
Yesterday's scenic drive of 119 kms (74 miles).
Clear blue sky and Table Mountain had great visibility!
Drove right through downtown.
Then we headed for the waterfront at Sea Point.
We parked the car and went for a walk on Clifton Beach.
Camp's Bay is a little bit touristy.
But still a nice place to go for a walk.
Next, we drove to the harbor at Hout Bay.
Wandered around Hout Bay Harbor and watched the seals.
And looked at all the boats.
Next was the fantastic Chapman's Peak Drive.
The coast further south.
Nice clear ocean.
We had actually planned on going to Cape Point. But it's a national park, and we couldn't justify the R105 ($11.25) per adult entry fee just to drive down to the bottom. We had already been to Cape Agulhas which is the southernmost tip of Africa, so didn't really need to do this.
Next up, we pulled in to Boulder's Beach to see the penguins one more time. We didn't pay the entry fee, just wandered along the free boardwalk section.
Penguins are so funny.
You can get quite close to them!
Then, it was back to Mark's. It was rush hour by the time we got close, but most of the traffic was going in the opposite direction. Almost 5:00pm by the time we got home.
Mark's cat, Oscar.
Ruth and Oscar are best friends now!
Incredible beaches and Cape Town seems to have it all for tourists and residents alike. Love the penguins, and Oscar, too. I'm already missing South Africa and you haven't even left!
ReplyDeleteCape Town really does have it all, something like Vancouver, except Vancouver doesn't have the penguins, OK it does but they are in the aquarium so that doesn't count!
DeleteWhen you guys get back to this side of "the pond", you'll have to remind yourself which side of the road to drive on. Don't be turning into that left lane!
ReplyDeleteWe have already laughed about that. We have been doing it for so long now that we think that North America drives on the wrong side of the road now!
DeleteThat does look like a gorgeous place to live. Penguins are so much fun to watch. They certainly don't have much fear of humans. Oscar's eyes are beautiful.
ReplyDeletePenguins are fun to watch but you have to be careful of them, they don't like you in "their" personal space and if you do they can give you a pretty mean bite!
DeleteLooks like the perfect place to end this particular adventure.
ReplyDeleteYes it is but we are sad that there were still too many other places that we wanted to see but just didn't have the time, guess we will just have to come back again some time.
DeleteSuch a beautiful scenic drive, as your time in South Africa winds down.
ReplyDeleteIt is probably one of the most beautiful drives around Cape Town.
DeleteCamp's Bay - love it!!!
ReplyDeleteBet you never knew that you had a bay in South Africa named after you!
DeleteLove that coast line, it looks so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful, unfortunately some of the communities along the way get very congested with traffic.
DeleteHow do you like being back in a big city and the traffic? Love the blue sky and water!
ReplyDeleteWe don't mind the city but the traffic gets to be a little much. It's better to take the train into town.
DeleteI notice they still have a Woolworths. I don't see Woolworths anymore in the US. Beautiful pictures and love tagging along on your trip. thank you.
ReplyDeleteApparently Woolworths here has no affiliation with Woolworths in North America, Europe or Australia. They did name it after the Woolworth Company in the United States but at the time the trademark laws were different and they allowed to use the name legally without permission. Here they are an upmarket retail store that is comparable to Marks and Spencer in the UK.
DeleteA Woolworth's! Awesome, Did you check it out?
ReplyDeleteThey are not affiliated with the American stores as you can read about in the above reply to Rita's comment. Yes, we have been in and they sell good quality food at slightly higher prices than most other chain supermarkets but we didn't really look at any of the other departments.
