A great day in Puerto Vallarta!

Yesterday morning, we had an offer of a ride in to Puerto Vallarta, so we took advantage of that. We probably wouldn't have gone at all this time around just to visit the city, but we wanted to visit a friend who we haven't seen for a while.

So we left the RV Park just before 8:30am yesterday morning.

Our ride dropped us off just after the airport. The airport is about 8 kms (5 miles) from the center of Puerto Vallarta, and since it was till fairly early in the day, we decided to walk for a while and see how it went. If we got too hot or tired, we would simply hop on the bus.

Before we knew it, we were at the malecon.

Our regular readers know that we do a lot of walking. So it shouldn't come as a surprise to you that we walked all the way from the airport to downtown! We didn't feel in the least bit tired. We werre taking our time, alternating between the beach and the roadway. Before we knew it, we were downtown.

It was Palm Sunday and there were a lot of church goers.

We stopped at a carnita stand for lunch. Excellent, filling meal for 30 pesos ($2.60) each, including one drink to share between us.

We met up with our friend Tracy at 3:00pm. We hadn't seen Tracy since Puerto Escondido a couple of years ago. We've kept in touch on facebook ever since, and we were looking forward to getting together again. Tracy is originally from Texas, but she's been living full time in Mexico for quite a few years now.

Interestingly, Tracy's mother rents an apartment here as well so we were looking forward to meeting Joy as well!

First, we vistited with Tracy for a while in her apartment. The place has a very cool rooftop swimming pool!

Then, we went over to Joy's apartment..which is also very cool and with some unique views of the city. Joy insisted on taking us out for dinner, and we enjoyed a great meal out!

After dinner, we went for a walk along the malecon. These paintings were for sale and it looked like Joy was considering a purchase...until she heard the price. I think he asked for $1,000 dollars! 

There were a lot of people out enjoying the evening. It's the beginning of Semana Santa (Holy Week) here in Mexico and a lot of people come to the beach.

What a great day we had. Tracy and her mom Joy are such easy people to talk to and they make us feel right at home. It must be that Texas thing! I wish we could have met Tracy's dad Ronnie, but he went back to Texas a bit earlier than Joy...hopefully one day we'll be able to stop in with the motorhome at their ranch in Texas!
