Never expected to wake up and do THAT this morning...

I just booked us a flight to Seoul, South Korea.

I belong to several flight alert services, and I had an email waiting in my inbox alerting me to an oddball Delta airlines deal that went from Saskatoon to Hong Kong for under $500 return. That's quite a bit less than half the usual price, and I would have booked it but the dates wouldn't line up for us. So I started doing some research...

And I found one leaving from Calgary to Seoul for $471 return. Yep, that's taxes in. Amazing.

Back in 2012, we had hosted a couchsurfer when we were staying at Ruth's dad's place. Her name was June, and she was from South Korea. She's asked us several times when we're going to visit her, and now she'll be surprised to see that we are going to!!

In June of 2012 at Ottawa train station with Ruth, Kevin, June, and Tony (Ruth's dad).

Are we crazy or what??!

When these types of deals come up, you have to be prepared to book now! Because they will usually be gone within 24 hours, and sometimes much sooner than that. Fortunately with Delta, you have a 24 hour period to get a full refund if you find you've made a rash decision!

This deal is with Delta Airlines. We leave on October 2nd and fly from Calgary to Seattle, , have a four hour layover, then Seattle direct to Seoul, South Korea. This return flight usually costs around $1,200 each. Then we return on October 30th. Still have to make our way down to Mexico after that, but we'll figure that out along the way.

So, 28 days in South Korea. We got it for $471. I still can't believe it.

  2. Seattle is the hub for Alaska Airlines and they have regular cheap one way fares from Seattle to Puerto Vallarta when the time comes. Your going to Asia! Can't wait to follow along. I have been to Hong Kong and Macau but none of the rest of Asia.

    1. Sorry, another option might be to take a cheap charter out of Vancouver to Mexico as well one way. October is such low season and usually you can get them (the charters are on selloffvacations.com as one option, they won't show up in the regular airlines)

  9. Well that's amazing but I've learned not to be surprised. I think you need to tell us all who these airline alerts are coming from. That's less than half price. Really fantastic. Well done AGAIN!

    1. I know that Kevin has done a post about it before but maybe he will need to do another one, there are always new sites popping up.

    1. We are pretty excited too. The site that Kevin use was a Calgary Airport alert site. I would expect that most airports have something similar. Maybe he will have to do a post on this again. The main thing is to search the internet for some of these sites.
