Only four more days

Including today, we only have four more days until the seasonal campers are allowed to start bringing their trailers and campers in. Our hired help has today off, but Ruth and I will be working.

We have around 122 usable campsites sites here at the park, and 80 of them are taken up with seasonal campers. It's those 80 sites that we have to have ready.

Next weekend is the May long weekend here in Canada. Last year, the park we worked at was very busy on that weekend, but apparently it's not a big deal here, and in fact we don't have a single reservation. There will be some seasonals here, but with the water level too low for doing any boating the park doesn't start to get busy until the kids are out of school next month.

And so cleanup continues. It's looking good though. And we're seeing some buds on the trees, so I bet by next week at this time things will be looking a little more green!

We have moved a lot of leaves!

This area is ready! Just have to move some picnic tables to the sites.

No idea why, but the guy last year moved about 80% of our picnic tables into our camp kitchen. Total waste of time and effort. After all, our picnic tables are made out of the same wood that you make a deck out of, and that material stays outdoors, covered in snow all winter. So why can't a picnic table stay outdoors all winter? I don't get it. What a huge make work project for nothing. It's probably going to take us a day to put them all back in place.

After supper, we went for a walk. I wanted to go across to the hills opposite the marina area. There's a small stream that you have to cross, so we had to walk a while down the stream to find a place narrow enough to get over there. Unfortunately, the photo ops would be better with the sun in the morning sky. We'll do that another day.

Did you know that there are cactus in Saskatchewan??

Looking down on our marina. The water is rising already, and by mid June those docks should be floating.

Ruth, relaxing after a day of cleaning up leaves!

That's the hill we climbed to get the view of the marina.

I put this stick in the water at the shoreline two days ago. The water is rising!

Lots of trees here.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there!

But...shouldn't Mother's Day be celebrated the day after Labor Day...? Hmmm...

  1. Everyday your photos show more of the beauty of the park. Our lake is rising quickly because of the melting snow in the hills and the rain. We had a beach when we arrived three weeks ago and now the bottom 2 steps down to the beach are under water. Colin just came in and said it has risen 2 inches since yesterday dinner time. Happy Mother's Day Ruth.

    1. Yes, we think it is beautiful here too, can't wait to see it when everything starts to get green.

Hope your water doesn't get too much higher.

  2. I despise make work projects. I'm betting those picnic tables will never be stacked in the kitchen again.

Amazing how fast the water is coming up, looks like a wonderful place for boating.

    1. You got that right Paul and Marti, they will be tilted at their site this fall!

It didn't rise as much since yesterday though, very strange!

  3. Wouldn't you like to ask him what he was thinking? Looks great there! Can't wait!

    1. Not sure he was thinking when he did this!

  4. It's quite possible the tables were stacked by order of an armchair bigwig. So brace yourself come September!

    1. Trust me, I will not be stacking picnic tables this fall. And I've already checked with the powers that be. Apparently last year's manager made that decision all on his own.

  5. I wondered if those were docks in your header. Interesting that they will be in water in short order.

I tend to agree with Dugg.

  7. After a day of physical work I wouldn't have thought you would want to go for a walk!

    1. The physical work was more on our upper body, our legs still felt fine.

  9. Wow 2/3rds of your spots are seasonals. That seams like a lot. Sure is going to be a beautiful place once everything including those hills greens up. Having had decks, my guess is that he knew that it would be a LOT of work to keep them from deteriorating if they are left outside for more than a winter or two. Maybe he thought more than one day of moving thems worth of work. We left our table out and after 3 or 4 winters and snows it dried out and had to be sanded and stained again. Thereafter we put it in the barn.

    1. You are right it does seem a lot but it should make our job easier because the seasonal's look after their own sites.

As for the tables, we had a picnic table when we had a house and it spent the winters outside and it survived and it must have spent at least 15 winters outside. Here the tables would be used a lot so they will eventually need repairs even if it weren't for the snow. There is no way those table will be going in the camp kitchen again, at least not while we are managing the place.
