We love doing this kind of stuff...we make some money, and so does one of you!! But you'll have to wait until Monday morning to see the details.
The main project the last couple of days here at the park has been to get the water system hooked up and working properly. It's not a perfect system, and I'm learning that there's been a lot of problems with it over the years. I think I'll make it my goal this year to perfect the system!!!
It may not be possible though. They pump the lake water throughout the campground, and part of the problem is that the water level at this time of year is pretty low. Also, it's a muddy bottom and the filter gets clogged quite easily.
I didn't know very much about pumps and water systems prior to last year, but I learned a little bit last year and I've learned a lot so far in the last two days. The guy who came to the park to help set up the system is pretty knowledgeable and easy to get along with and he explained a lot about the system here and how to get it working again when something goes wrong.
And something has gone wrong every day since we got it fired up. I tell you now, I am not going to put up with a "use it for a day, fix it for a day" type of system.
Besides the leaks from the cracked pipes, fittings, and valves being frozen during the winter, the system shuts off apparently without reason. I think it's because the intake is still in pretty shallow water and it's managing to gulp a breath of air, which causes the pump to shut down. So today, I'm going to attach a shorter weight to it and hold it under the water a little better and hopefully that will do the job. It might involve wading out in the cold, cold water.
I hate getting in cold water.
Typical southern Saskatchewan scenery.
Yesterday afternoon Ruth and I went into Speedy Creek (Swift Current) to do our grocery shopping. Also spent a bunch of money on tools and shop equipment at Canadian Tire. The board authorized me to purchase the tools needed to properly equip the shop, so I did. The neat thing about Canadian Tire is that they often have fantastic sale prices.
In fact, anybody who buys anything at regular price at Canadian Tire is crazy because it'll come on sale within a week or two! And sometimes at up to 70% off.
Here's an example of what I got...a 49 piece impact gun 1/2" socket set. Top of the line, and guaranteed for life. Regular price $244.99 on sale for $69.99.
In total I bought $694 worth of tools for $246. Great deal.
We had our first seasonal campers move in yesterday. That sure makes it look more like a campground!
You're so right about Canadian Tire, always watch for the specials! Nice looking campground, great spot on the water. Anxious to see how it looks when the leaves come out.
ReplyDeleteWe can't wait to see it all greened up too!
DeleteThose 2 RV's in the last photo sure are close together, not much of a patio area.
ReplyDeleteYes, some of the sites are very close together. Not for us, but apparently some people like it because we have a waiting list for those sites!
DeleteThat is what's known in the industry as a double-wide fifth wheel :)
DeleteGotta love you neighbor... and hope they don't snore!
ReplyDeleteMost of these sites were made when trailers and campers were so much smaller but now they are big. A lot of the sites are taken up with two families or with friends so they don't mind having their neighbour so close.
DeletePerhaps those two are families occupying a double site? Kinda looks that way. GREAT shopping and glad you are getting a handle on the water problem. I know if we were there, Steve would be right alongside of you....(well, maybe not in the ice cold water) But he would be watching ... haha

I think you are right in most cases or they are two friends together. Yep, the water has become a bit of a proble but Kevin and our student worker, Kevin will get it sorted out.
DeleteWe always love when you post farming photos - what a great header today - look at all that land - WOW!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Connie, it isn't hard here because most of the country around this area is farming!
DeleteSome great pics of Saskatchewan. You've reminded me to appreciate what's on my doorstep.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ryshia! We now know that there is more to Saskatchewan than what our first impression was many years ago.
DeleteI don't think I ever pay full price for too much at Canadian Tire. Just not going to happen. I pour over that flyer every Friday night when it comes in the local rag.
ReplyDeleteMakes you wonder what their markup is on their products when they aren't on sale?!
DeleteCanadian Tire sounds like Harbor Freight that we have here in Tucson. Steve loves getting their flyers.
ReplyDeleteHaving never been to a Harbor Freight we can't compare the two but if guys like it, then it must be similar.
DeleteYou are right about Canadian Tire always so real amazing deals to be had there
ReplyDeleteThe deals are only amazing if it is something you need though.
DeleteI know you hate cold water but look on the bright side. You'll be able to sing those soprano notes better... :cD
ReplyDeleteTrust me, I won't be getting in that deep!!
DeleteI see your 2014 travel starts in the Southern part of Africa. I assume you're travelling Namibia as well? I live in Windhoek capital city of Namibia.
ReplyDeleteHi Christy...we were in Namibia for November and December of 2013. You can check back in our archives and see all the wonderful things that we did there. You live in an interesting and scenic country!
