Eventually, we decided to book it.
When we arrive back in Seattle from our trip to Korea at the end of October, the plan is to make our way down to Mexico. Preferably the Puerto Escondido area, which would mean flying into Mexico City to connect.
This deal would have totally switched things up. It was return flights from Mexico City to Buenos Aries, Argentina. Cost was $358 USD each. We decided we would go for almost two months, from mid November to mid January exploring Argentina. What a great deal!
As I've said before, the great deals don't last long. Sometimes only a few hours, and sometimes a couple of days...which is why you have to act fast. I went to book it, and checked the price again on the carrier's website. It was through AeroMexico. I decided I would book it through expedia and get Air Miles. But I couldn't get it to bring it up, which was strange. I tried a few different dates, and nope...it wasn't there at that price. So I went back to the carrier's website to book it...and it was now $850 per person!
This deal had been on since Friday morning and I hadn't seen it on Friday. By the time we saw it and made a decision...it was too late. We literally missed it by minutes!
I wasn't actively looking for a deal, which is why we procrastinated a bit. Had this been something I was looking for, we wouldn't have had to think about it and would have booked it right away. You snooze, you lose!
And so, it wasn't meant to be. As Ruth says, another deal will come along and who knows where we'll end up. Maybe the next deal will be even better!
Yesterday was another mixed day, with showers and sunny breaks. We wanted to go for a hike in the hills with Esther and Steve, but every time we got to the point of heading out, it would start to rain! We eventually decided to just go for it, and for the most part enjoyed a couple of hours out hiking.
Things are really starting to get green from all the rain we had last week.
You can walk these hills for miles. The trees are where the park is.
There is a tourist "dude ranch" on the opposite side of the river, and I zoomed in on these folks doing a cattle drive.
Cliffside erosion.
Bet you didn't know Saskatchewan was this pretty.
Esther and Ruth.
Steve and Esther and their motorhome.
They have the perfect size unit for RV'ing in Mexico! Really great interior floorplan as well. Very different, with a fold down "murphy bed" in the living area, and a spacious rear bathroom. Excellent use of space in a 24 ft motorhome!
Our header photo from the month of April 2009 has us driving north through the U.S. where we enjoyed the scenic Natchez Trace parkway...
Ruth, enjoying the Tennessee scenery.
Ruth is right - something better will come along. You are in my kind of country - wide open spaces. I sure do love them.
ReplyDeleteSandy, I am sure you and Jim would love it here!
DeleteThere ya go, saved some money, until the next time.
ReplyDeleteYep, we just never know what might be around the corner for us!
DeleteWhat kind of motorhome do they have? it looks very interesting We are still in Alaska a place you need to visit soooo many hiking trails.
ReplyDeleteIt is made by Regency and the model is a Grand Touring. It is 24' with a Murphy bed. Apparently they stopped making this model last year, Steve and Esther bought it when they heard that they were discontinuing it.
DeleteWendy, I know that we would love Alaska and that there is lots of hiking and one year we will make it up there.
Win some, lose some! But like you said, another will come along and it might be a more exotic place!
ReplyDeleteI am quite happy to spent next winter in Sherman, we really have been missing him and love traveling in him.
DeleteI admit to being somewhat biased as we spent our entire lives in Saskatchewan until a move to BC in retirement. Loved our time there except for the wind. A varied landscape from the prairies in the south to the forests of the north, along with the friendly people.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly Saskatchewan does have a varied landscape and it is definitely growing on us. You are certainly right about the wind, there is lots of it. We definitely wouldn't want to spend a winter here though. And, yes there are lots of friendly people.
DeleteYou are right, I had no idea Saskatchewan was so beautiful. Well, the thing about Argentina is that Poor Sherman is going to get very lonely if you don't come back some time. :-)
ReplyDeleteThere are many hidden gems in Saskatchewan and we are lucky to be staying at one. The more we stay in Saskatchewan the more it changes our perception on it.
DeleteI have to admit, I am a little sorry that we aren't going to Argentina but I am really looking forward to spending the winter traveling in Sherman.
We have been prairie people all our lives. Saskatchewan and Manitoba get a bad rapid for the boring scenery as do the midwest states, but that is from those that travel the TransCanada Hwy and Interstates. As you guys know; look and you shall see!
ReplyDeleteWe have found the more you travel, the harder it is to pick your favourite places. Mountains, desert, prairies, beaches; all beautiful, so how can you choose?
You look like you have so many options for travel this coming winter, Sherman will be getting quite worried he may not see you. Whatever comes your way, we are sure you will enjoy the people you meet and whatever new adventure comes along.
You are very right Barry and Lorrie and we had also misjudged Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Going along the Trans Canada highway definitely doesn't do the two provinces justice. We are finding that there are many beautiful spots in Saskatchewan and we are lucky to be working at one of those places. It would be nice to have more time to explore more of the province and perhaps we will one day soon.
DeleteI am sorta hoping that nothing better comes along, I am quite happy to spend the winter traveling in Sherman, I think we have missed him as much as he misses us.
