Visitors from Mexico!

Average day here at the park yesterday. It's a little cool, and so we still don't have that many people coming in. Besides the people who hold seasonal sites, I think we had three reservations for the weekend.

One of them was a couple of RVers who drove here all the way from Mexico!

Our friends Chris and Juan are on their big North American tour, and stopping in to see friends across Canada. They live just outside Monterrey, and they are big proponents of RV'ing in Mexico. We've met them several times on our travels throughout the country, and now we get to host them on our turf!

Kind of strange to see Mexican licence plates way up here. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen Mexican plates in Canada. They said they've been getting lots of comments from people who notice their plates.

Chris keeps a blog of their RV adventure at http://livingboondockingmexico.blogspot.ca/

Chris, Kevin, Juan, and our daughter Lindsey.

They had a long drive from Lethbridge, Alberta yesterday arriving here at about 4:30pm. Ruth and Lindsey had made hamburgers and salads and I grilled up the burgers and we had a feast. Lots of great conversation, and we're so glad they arrived at the same time that Lindsey is here so they could meet each other.

They're headed all the way to Nova Scotia, so it's likely that Lindsey will see them again in early July when they arrive out there. It's a long way to travel so they can't linger here too long, but they'll stay for at least the weekend. Hopefully we can get out for a hike in the hills around here before they leave!

Here's our header photo from today. It was a tough choice to find our best picture from February of 2008 when we had driven from Baja California Sur in Mexico, across on the ferry to Mazatlan, and then across Mexico and up to Texas. We had taken a lot of photos, but here's our top choice from the month...

  1. Hey!! Glad they made it. They have had a nice drive in Canada and the weather only tried to drown them in BC!! Say hi from us! Funny, we have never met them but because we have read their blog and heard you guys and Paula and Jerry talk about on them for so long, it seems like we know them!! Wish we could meet up somewhere!!

Tell Lindsey that she has to make her famous blueberry muffins for them when they come to visit!!

Have a great visit. Kevin....is that beer and wine I see in front of you??? :-)

    1. I wish you could meet up with them too but I think the timing is going to be a little off and your paths aren't going to cross but you should try to keep an eye on their blog because you just never know.

We never got time to make the blueberry muffins but Lindsey did make her yummy chocolate chip cookies which were a real hit.

Can't wait to see you guys at the end of the month. Yes, that is a beer in front of Kevin, thanks to Chris and Juan.

  3. So nice that they made it there and got to meet Lindsey as well.
They sure have a long drive ahead of them and if they are in the area we are (somewhere in southern Ontario) would like to meet them. even though we have not met before.
    Enjoy your time with them.

  4. Give then a smack on the side of the head for me. They are missing some of the highlights like the drive up the rocky Mountain Parkway and the Drumheller Museum. ;)

I am glad to see they made it there in any case and got a chance to meet Lindsey. They got to meet our son as well. I think they are enjoying Canada, hopefully enough to see that a return trip is called for!

    1. Yep, it was such a shame that they missed Drumheller area. The badlands are so interesting.

We are so happy that they got to meet Lindsey too and when they are in Ottawa they may even get a chance to met our son Alex. It's pretty cool to show them our side of the world and our families.

  6. Nice visit!

Kevin, I pay $89.99/month (tax included) through Millenicom. They buy huge chunks of data time wholesale from Verizon and resell it cheaper than Verizon charges for their own plans, and they are on the Verizon network. It's a good deal and works well for us.

  7. Man oh man, that's a lot of driving. Good on them to try and take in the whole country. I don't think I've ever gone completely coast to coast. We'll all be following along. Enjoy the visit.

    1. Yep, that's a lot of driving, we have done a lot of this drive ourselves. Too bad they didn't have more time so that could do this trip just a little bit slower and see a few more of the sights. They are really enjoying themselves though.
