June Expenses

We have really low expenses while we're working here at the campground for the summer. So how is it that we spent $1,900 in the month of June??

Well, we're suckers for a cheap airfare deal...

As we told you back in May, we booked a return flight from Calgary to Seoul, South Korea for the month of October. It was only $471 return each. As one of our traveling friends said, "for that price it would have been rude not to book it!".

So we did. And we paid for it in the month of June.

Our return flight connects in Seattle, so we're probably going to get off there and find our way south from there.

Anyhow, other than our impromptu decision to go to Korea, the month our expenses were just a little higher than expected.

Gasoline: Spent $111 for the month, but when you consider that we picked up daughter Lindsey and the grandkids at Saskatoon, and drove them back to Regina...not bad. Gasoline in nearby Swift Current has been stuck at $1.299 per litre since we arrived here May 1st.

Groceries: Still higher than expected, but we did have some extra mouths to feed. We spent $627 on groceries. July should be lower.

Miscellaneous: Not bad, at $220. Considering our internet bill is around $115 and our car insurance is around $80.

So really, without our future travel expenses factored in, it wasn't a bad month at $958.

But then we add this...

Travel: $942 for our flights to Korea.

Anyhow, July should be back to normal. No flights to pay for this month. Never know about next month though. I just found a one way flight from Seattle to the Caribbean island of St. Maarten for $164. Problem is, there's no cheap way to get off the island!

  1. It's always interesting to compare your expenses to ours. A monthly tally encourages us to be more frugal. But travel is travel and like you and Ruth it's our top priority! Btw, gasoline in northern Ontario is $148.99. :(

    1. It's not totally fair to compare our expenses to yours or anyone else's because we all live such different lives. As long as we all have fun that's what's important.

      Yikes on the gas prices!

  2. So just stay on the island until you figure something out or use the ferry and island hop, or hitch a ride on one of the hundreds of yachts that call in there. Surely you aren't going to let a little thing like getting stuck there stop you going ?????

    1. I had mentioned to Kevin about finding a yacht to crew on. He just doesn't want to pay more than we have to, to get off the island and back to Mexico, then what it would cost us to just to get to Mexico from Seattle. So yeah, I guess we are going to let it stop us from going!

  3. Too bad on St. Maarten, the way you hike, that island would get old in a hurry! ;c)

    Great header picture, BTW!

  4. Interesting point. We find that Canadians are pedal heavy. At $5.25 a gallon or more throughout the country, you would think people would have a slow take off from a stop light. Brake and gas, brake and gas, 30 kms over the speed limit. Wow, they must have a lot of money to burn. I guess we are in the way!

    1. We find most places are pedal heavy! Even when we were in Europe and Africa where gas is even more expensive, people still drove fast.
