Help Wanted

Driving around the nearby town of Swift Current, all you see are "Help Wanted" signs in every store window. The local Walmart has had a billboard out front saying "Now Hiring" since we arrived here at the end of April.

Now, we're trying to get one of our bathroom buildings renovated here at the park and we can't find anybody to do the job!

I can't even get anybody to come out and give us a quote. I mean, it's probably a seven to ten thousand dollar job that you would think somebody would jump at. But the guys I have spoken to say things like "I'm booked through December" and they don't even want to drive out here to look at the job.

So I'm not sure what we're going to do. And we're not the only ones. One of the ladies here wants her kitchen renovated and she can't find anybody to do it.

Maybe I'll rip the interior apart myself next month and then it will be a smaller job for someone to rebuild next spring.

Meanwhile, we putter around with stuff here at the park. All that rain over the weekend sure made stuff green. And all of a sudden the grass is growing like crazy. I guess I'll sit on a lawnmower for part of the day today.

Oh, so one of the Gator's has had a slow leak in one of the tires. I had been filling it up once a week or so and was going to take the wheel off and bring it in to be repaired at the end of the season. But this week it started leaking a little faster. I checked it out, and quickly found a nail stuck in the tire. I decided to buy a plug kit and fix it myself.

Took the tire off and pulled the nail out. Plugged it up, and as I'm working on it I notice another nail in the same tire! No wonder it was leaking worse. Turns out I found yet another one. A screw this time! There were three punctures in the one tire. Surprised it wasn't flat every morning! Anyhow, all fixed up now.

Beautiful day yesterday. Sunny, and 26C (79F). Perfect. Calling for a little warmer today. Had six different RV's book in yesterday, all of them staying through the upcoming long weekend. We're not quite booked up, but it's certainly looking busier than what people have told us it was normally like in past years.

And after this coming Monday?

Nothing. Not a single reservation, even though we're open for camping until September 15th. I guess a lot will depend on the weather.

Our Amazon deal of the day...

How about a new bathroom scale?

For the price, that's a great deal for what reviewers say is a great product.

  1. With unemployment what it is, why is there nobody wanting to get a job?

  2. Wow, I'd jump at the chance for a 7-10K job. I guess the economy is better than they tell us and everyone is fully employed?

    1. Depends on where you are. Here in Saskatchewan, the economy is booming! Officially, the unemployment rate here is just over 3%. The lowest level in 40 years.

  3. I have that exact scale! What I like best about it is, if you step on it ten times, it shows you the same weight ten times. Unlike most other electronic scales.

    1. Aww shucks, if I find a scale that gives be a different weight each time, I am able to then pick the lowest weight but I wouldn't be able to do it with this one! :-(

    2. LOL, you play that game too! No such cheating with this scale :)

    3. I don't really play that game because we don't have a scale. I go by how my clothes feel, if they are too tight it is time to get more exercise and eat a little less. ;-)

  4. Unless you are certain that you will be returning to your job next year it might be wise not to gut the bathroom house. You have one idea on how to do things and someone else will totally disagree with you.

    It's about time.
