Lots to do around Puerto Escondido

All we need is some ambition to get out and do some of it! We're totally enjoying just doing nothing, although we do have some plans over the next few days.

For example, there's a botanical gardens that we want to visit. It's located about 15 minutes outside of town on highway 131. We didn't know which collectivo to take, but we found out who to ask!

There is a lady named Gina who operates a tourist booth at the western end of the beach road at Playa Principal. She's known as "the information goddess" of Puerto Escondido. If you need to know anything about Puerto Escondido, this is the lady to see!

Sure enough, Gina knew how to get us to where we wanted to go. As an added bonus, she also suggested we continue on further when we're finished with the botanical gardens and go to the village of San Pedro and have lunch there before coming back to Puerto Escondido. So that's what's on the schedule for today!

We continued up the hill from Gina's and went to the Super Che grocery store and picked up a few things for dinner. We came in from a different side and noticed a big construction project. It seems the Super Che is expanding. It always was a pretty busy store so we're not surprised.

View of Playa Zicatela from the pedestrian overpass in Puerto Escondido.

On the way back to the apartment, we stopped and got a paleta (popsicle) from the Michoacana popsicle franchise at the beach. They make the most delicious strawberry cream popsicles! We paid tourist prices though... 20 pesos each. Only problem...it was so hot outside that it was melting faster than you could eat it!

Lazed around for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Sunset in Puerto Escondido.

  3. Love that sunset picture. I could just laze around there for sure and I think after all the traveling you've been doing, you deserve it. I know those of us even a little bit north of you would sure like to have some of that popsicle melting heat.

    1. Thanks Sherry! yep, it has been nice to laze around for a change. We still seem to be doing things just not all day long, so it has definitely been relaxing.

Ya, we have been hearing about all the cold and snow in Canada and the US, even the cold all the way down into Florida. That's one of the reasons we love coming to Mexico, you are almost always guaranteed sunny skies and hot weather all winter long.

    1. The popsicle was delicious, it would have been even better if we could have found a place to sit in the shade and eat it instead of having to walk with it! What a rough life we live. ;-)
