Some serious motorhome cleanup!

Sitting for 7 months in the humidity down here near Puerto Vallarta isn't very good for a motorhome. We're 15 kms inland from the ocean, so we're not worried about salt. But the humidity and rain over the summer causes stuff to start growing on the exterior.

It was not nice seeing poor Sherman in this state, so we got right to cleaning things up!

There's a full time resident RV'er here at Altarose Rancho, and he's got a trailer full of equipment, including a five hp gas powered pressure washer. That sure helped get the grunge of the exterior...

Kevin, giving Sherman a bath.

So the pressure washer got rid of the heavy stuff, but he still needs to be washed by hand with soap and a rag. At least he's half ways presentable now.

And, I cleaned the burner for the fridge and got it fired up. Unfortunately that only lasted for a couple of hours and the fridge shut down. I did some tests and determined that the electronic board wasn't working properly. The same thing had happened last year with the hot water heater and I had used the replacement universal board that I had kept for emergency. So I had to remove it from the hot water heater (which we rarely use anyhow) and now the fridge works perfectly again.

If your RV is more than five years old, I highly suggest you carry one of these replacement boards with you. Especially if you RV in Mexico...

There are a couple of different models, just make sure you get the proper one for your application! Ours will operate the fridge, the hot water heater, or the furnace.

In the meantime, Ruth was working on the interior. A little dusty inside, and she took down all of the curtains and washed them. And, just generally sorted things out to get Sherman set up the way we like him for 4 months of serious RV living and exploring!

This is Ringo. He lives in the field behind us. He likes to eat leftover watermelon rinds!

And this is Puma. He's the new guard dog here.

Puma is only six months old. He's the replacement for Reno, who sadly passed away a couple of months ago. Also, the other dog here, Missy, is unexpectedly pregnant and due to have her very first litter of pups in a week or two. She's nine years old, so hopefully everything goes well for her.

This morning, we're going to fire up Sherman and take him for a drive to the big Mega grocery store and stock our cupboards and fill up the gas tank!

  1. Pressure washing is such a therapeutic past time. I love being a hoser. Sherman looks great already.

    1. Have to admit that it was a lot easier getting the worst of the dirt off with the pressure wash. Tomorrow Kevin will start with the scrubbing part of it.

  2. Looks like you are going to get your doggie fix while you are staying there.

    1. It would be lovely to have a dog again but right now we are enjoying our life without one and are just having fun with other people's dogs.

    1. It will take us a little while to get him looking good again but we are OK with that and we have the time.

  5. Doesn't seem to matter what climate an RV sits in for any more than a few months, they get mightly dirty. Hope Sherman runs OK for your grocery run.

    1. We totally agree with you Bob!

We did have a good trip on our grocery run but we did encounter a slight problem. I am sure that Kevin will mention in the next post.

  6. Puma doesn't look very friendly! Perhaps that is the idea.

    1. At the moment Puma may look a little mean but he really is a pussy cat. I think he will end up being a good watch dog although I think that Reno was a better one. We sure are missing Reno though!

    1. We have to agree with you KL although up until this point they have done a great job with Missy. They would give her a shot before she came into heat but this last time they were a little late with the shot. They gave her the shot anyways and shut her into a small compound with gated front, which they felt was safe, unfortunately a very "skinny" male dog managed to get through and did his deed. I believe now that they wish they had spayed Missy right from the beginning.
